A heteroaryl-thio-substituted pyrone compound that is a heteroaryl-thio-substituted pyrone or a heteroaryl-thio-substituted coumarin. In various embodiments, the heteroaryl-thio-substituted pyrone compound or a reaction product thereof is a metal corrosion inhibitor.

Various embodiments disclosed relate to electrochemical isomerization of muconic acid. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method to prepare trans,trans-muconic acid. The method can include passing current through a catalytic cathode in a reactor including an aqueous acidic solution including cis,trans-muconic acid, a supporting electrolyte, and an anode, so as to isomerize the cis,trans-muconic acid to yield a product including trans trans-muconic acid.

Electrochemical isomerization of muconic acid

Various embodiments disclosed relate to isomerization of muconic acid. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method of forming trans,trans-muconic acid. The method includes heating a starting material composition to form a product composition including trans,trans-muconic acid. The starting material composition includes cis,cis-muconic acid, cis,trans-muconic acid, or a combination thereof. The starting material composition also includes an electrophilic compound, an organic solvent, or a combination thereof.

Isomerization of muconic acid

Described is a process to make hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from glucose. The process includes the steps of reacting a feedstock solution comprising glucose, in the presence of a homogeneous Br&#xf8;nsted acid catalyst and a homogeneous Lewis acid catalyst, in a reaction vessel containing a biphasic reaction medium. The reaction medium includes an aqueous reaction solution and a substantially immiscible organic extraction solution. HMF is produced in the aqueous reaction solution and extracted into the organic extraction solution.

A catalyst and sorbent is disclosed which comprises pellets with an absorbent core and a protective shell with a catalyst in the shell. Such material is especially well suited for steam reforming of hydrocarbons to produce hydrogen since a reforming catalyst can be incorporated in the shell and a sorbent for the by-product carbon dioxide can be used for the core. It is also well suited for producing hydrogen from carbon monoxide by means of the water gas shift reaction. The shell can be made sufficiently strong and durable for moving bed applications as well as fixed bed applications.
