We provide a process to manufacture a base stock, comprising hydrocracking, separating, and dewaxing, wherein the base stock has a ratio of Noack volatility to CCS VIS at &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. multiplied by 100 from 0.15 to 0.40. We also provide a base stock made by a process, and a base oil manufacturing plant that produces the base stock.

A process for producing an API Group I base oil, comprising: blending a lower quality base oil that does not meet API Group I specifications with a Fischer-Tropsch derived distillate fraction having defined pour point, viscosity index and Oxidator B, and isolating an API Group I base oil that has improved defined properties. A process for producing an API Group I base oil, consisting essentially of: (a) selecting a lower quality base oil not meeting API Group I specifications, having defined saturates, viscosity index and Oxidator BN; and (b) blending the lower quality base oil with a Group II base oil and a Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil. The base oil may have a ratio of Noack Volatility to CCS VIS at &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. multiplied by 100 from 0.80 to 1.55.

A base oil slate comprising three or more base oil grades having kinematic viscosities at 100&#xb0; C. between about 1.8 cSt and about 30 cSt prepared from a waxy feed wherein each of the base oil grades is a base oil blend which comprises: (a) between about 0.1 wt. % and about 99.9 wt. % of a distillation fraction prepared in light block mode operation; and (b) between about 0.1 wt. % and about 99.9 wt. % of a distillation fraction prepared in medium block mode operation. A process to make a light base oil fraction having a wt % Noack volatility between 0 and 100 and additionally less than a Noack Volatility Factor (NVF), wherein the Noack Volatility Factor is defined by the equation: 900&#xd7;(Kinematic Viscosity at 100&#xb0; C.)&#x2212;15. The process comprises hydroisomerization dewaxing a waxy feed in a series of two or more reactors, and recovering the light base oil fraction having a low wt % Noack volatility.

Process to make a light base oil fraction having low Noack volatility

The present invention relates to an extra light hydrocarbon liquid derived from highly paraffinic wax. This extra light hydrocarbon liquid is suitable for use as a lubricant additive diluent oil in oil soluble additive concentrates. This extra light hydrocarbon liquid derived from highly paraffinic wax has a viscosity of between about 1.0 and 3.5 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. and a Noack volatility of less than 50 weight % and comprises greater than 3 weight % molecules with cycloparaffinic functionality and less than 0.30 weight percent aromatics. The extra light hydrocarbon liquid makes an excellent lubricant additive diluent oil because it has low volatility, low viscosity, good additive solubility, and excellent solubility in lubricant base oil stocks. The present invention also relates to finished lubricants comprising the oil soluble additive concentrates made with the extra light hydrocarbon liquid and finished lubricants comprising the oil soluble additive concentrates. The present invention further relates to processes for making these lubricant additive diluent oils, oil soluble additive concentrates, and finished lubricants.

A lubricant, comprising a light base oil fraction having a wt % Noack volatility between 0 and 100 and additionally less than a Noack Volatility Factor (NVF), wherein the Noack Volatility Factor is defined by the equation; 900&#xd7;(Kinematic Viscosity at 100&#xb0; C.)&#x2212;15, and optionally one or more additional additives. A process to make the light base oil fraction, comprising hydroisomerization dewaxing a waxy feed in a series of two or more reactors, and recovering the light base oil fraction having a low wt % Noack volatility. Also, a light base oil fraction having a wt % Noack volatility between 0 and 100 and additionally less than the NVF, made by the process of hydroisomerization dewaxing a waxy feed in a series of reactors.

Light base oil fraction and lubricant having low wt% noack volatility

A process for producing a product slate, which includes at least three base oil grades having kinematic viscosities at 100&#xb0; C. within the range between about 1.8 cSt and 30 cSt, from a waxy feed having an initial boiling point of about 340&#xb0; C. or less and a final boiling point of about 560&#xb0; C. or higher, said process comprising (a) isomerizing at least a portion of the waxy feed, whereby the amount of isoparaffins present are increased; (b) distilling a first portion of the isomerized waxy feed in light block mode operation into at least three base oil fractions having different boiling ranges; (c) distilling a second portion of the isomerized waxy feed in medium block mode operation into at least three base oil fractions having different boiling ranges; and (d) blending at least one base oil fraction produced from light block mode with at least one base oil fraction produced from medium block mode to produce a lubricating base oil blend meeting a target value for at least one pre-selected property.

Processes for producing extra light hydrocarbon liquids

Blended lubricant base oils and blended finished lubricants comprising &#x2267;70 weight percent Fischer-Tropsch derived lubricant base oils comprising &#x2267;6 weight % molecules with monocycloparaffinic functionality and less than 0.05 weight % molecules with aromatic functionality; at least one polyalphaolefin lubricant base oil with a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. greater than about 30 cSt and less than 150 cSt are provided. These blended lubricant base oils and blended finished lubricants exhibit superior friction and wear properties, in addition to other highly desired properties. Also provided are processes for making these blended lubricant base oils and blended finished lubricants.

Polyalphaolefin and fischer-tropsch derived lubricant base oil lubricant blends

A process for producing a lubricating base oil blend which comprises (a) recovering a Fischer-Tropsch derived distillate fraction characterized by a kinematic viscosity of about 2 cSt or greater but less than 3 cSt at 100 degrees C.; and (b) blending the Fischer-Tropsch derived distillate fraction with a petroleum derived base oil selected from the group consisting of a Group I base oil, a Group II base oil, a Group III base oil, and a mixture of two or more of any of the foregoing conventional base oils in the proper proportion to produce a lubricating base oil blend characterized as having a viscosity of about 3 or greater; also the base oil blends, finished lubricants, and their use in internal combustion engines.
