A videophone apparatus and a method for automatically adjusting a videophone visual indicator are provided. The videophone includes a camera unit with an imager. Data from the imager and imager data processed by an image signal processor may be converted into a value that can be compared to a scale correlating to a brightness condition of an area in which the imager is located, allowing the brightness condition to be determined. The visual indicators of the videophone can be set to illuminate based upon the determined brightness condition. Thus, the brightness condition of a room can be determined using components already found on the videophone, without the need for additional sensors, hardware or software that increase the cost and complexity of the videophone.

Systems and methods for visually indicating an occurrence of an incoming call for the hearing impaired are disclosed. A video communication device may be configured to receive an incoming communication to at least two unique identifiers assigned by a video relay service provider. The video communication device can display a unique visual indicator pattern, which may be user-created and user-assigned to the one of the at least two unique identifiers dialed by a caller. The visual indicator pattern may be indicative of the existence an incoming call, the origin of the call, the destination device for the call, the destination ID for the call, or combinations thereof. The video communication device, when receiving an incoming call, may send a wireless notification signal to other communication devices, thereby notifying other devices that a video communication device is receiving an incoming call.

High-speed video interfaces, video endpoints, and related methods are disclosed. A high-speed video interface includes a system cable, a remote camera unit, and a main processing unit. The system cable includes one or more twisted pairs. A method includes capturing near-end video images including multi-channel, high-definition video data, serializing the video data, and transmitting the serialized video data to the main processing unit through a single one of the one or more twisted pairs of the system cable with the remote camera unit. The method also includes deserializing the serialized video data with the main processing unit. A video endpoint configured to enable an audibly impaired user to participate in video communication sessions for audibly impaired users includes the high-speed video interface.
