This invention relates to polarizing plates and their manufacturing process. More particularly, this invention provides a method of making a polarizing plate comprising, providing a polarizing film, coating at least one optical film solution to both sides of the polarizing film simultaneously or near simultaneously, and drying the optical film coating solution to form an optical film on each side of the polarizing film.

Method of making a polarizer plate

The invention generally relates to polymer films used as protective cover sheets for polarizer plates, their manufacture, and to a method for producing polarizing plates employing such polymer films. More particularly, the invention provides a guarded cover sheet composite comprising a temporary carrier substrate having a first cover sheet comprising a first low birefringence film on one side and a second cover sheet comprising a second low birefringence film on the other side.

Apparatus for drying coated web material and preferably moving web material comprises a nozzle, means for supplying air to the nozzle and means to distribute the air through said nozzle substantially uniformly across the web width, said nozzle arcing from a position perpendicular with respect to the plane of the web to a position substantially parallel with respect to the plane of the web, said nozzle having an exit slot wherein the air is discharged from the exit slot at an angle of between 1.degree. and 45.degree. with respect to the plane of the web.
