Actuator assembly includes a housing assembly, a ball screw, a ball nut, and a lock. The ball screw is rotationally mounted on and extends from the housing assembly, is coupled to receive an actuator drive torque, and is configured, upon receipt thereof, to rotate. The ball nut is rotationally supported on the ball screw and is configured, in response to rotation of the ball screw, to translate thereon between a stowed position and a deployed position. The lock is disposed at least partially within the housing assembly and is configured to move between a lock position and an unlock position. The lock prevents the ball nut from translating out of the stowed position when the lock is in the lock position and the ball nut is in the stowed position.

Embodiments of translating nut mechanism having enhanced lubrication features are provided, as are embodiments of variable bleed valve systems employing translating nut mechanism in the form of bidirectional stop mechanisms. In one embodiment, the translating nut mechanism comprises a housing containing a pool of grease or another lubricant. A screw shaft is mounted in the housing for rotation about a working axis. A translating nut is threadably mounted to the screw shaft and moves linearly along the working axis with rotation of the screw shaft. A first lubricant distribution feature, such as a grease paddle, projects from the translating nut into the lubricant pool. The first lubricant distribution feature moves through the lubricant pool to distribute lubricant within the translating nut mechanism as the translating nut moves along the working axis.

Embodiments of a combination bearing are provided, as are embodiments of a valve assembly including a combination bearing. In one embodiment, the valve assembly includes a flowbody having a flow passage therethrough, a drive shaft rotatably mounted within the flowbody, a valve element mounted to the drive shaft and positioned within the flow passage, and a combination bearing coupled between the flowbody and the drive shaft. The combination bearing comprises an integral radial load/thrust ring coupled to the drive shaft, and a thrust washer substantially adjacent the integral radial load/thrust ring, as taken along the longitudinal axis of the combination bearing. An outer radial ring circumscribes the integral thrust/radial load ring. A first plurality of rolling elements is captured between the thrust washer and the integral radial load/thrust ring, and a second plurality of rolling elements is captured between the outer radial ring and the integral radial load/thrust ring.

A roller bearing assembly includes an annular outer ring with first and second outer ring shoulders that define a first raceway in the outer ring. An annular inner ring may be disposed substantially concentrically within the outer ring, the inner ring including a base portion and first and second inner ring shoulders that extend from and are integral with the base portion to define a second raceway in the inner ring. A plurality of rolling elements may be arranged between the inner ring and outer ring and within the first and second raceways to rotatably couple the outer ring to the inner ring.

A linear actuator includes a thrust bearing that is integral to the actuation member. The actuator includes a translation member and an actuation member. The actuation member is responsive to a drive force to rotate. The translation member is configured to translate in response to actuation member. The thrust bearing is coupled to the actuation member and includes an inner race, an outer race, and a plurality of balls. The thrust bearing is configured as a zero lead ballscrew, with the inner race integrally formed on the actuation member, and the plurality of balls disposed between the inner and outer races.

A bi-directional locking ring assembly is provided comprising a housing and a gear having a plurality of teeth. The gear is coupled to the housing to rotate in opposite directions about a rotational axis. A pin is also coupled to the housing and has an apex configured to travel along a line that does not pass through the rotational axis of the gear. The pin is configured to translate between (1) a disengaged position wherein the gear is free to rotate, and (2) an engaged position wherein the apex resides between two of the plurality of teeth to prevent rotation of the gear in both rotational directions. A pin actuator is coupled to the housing and configured to engage the pin to selectively lock the pin in the engaged position.

A bearing assembly comprises an inner ring and an outer ring assembly having an upstream face and a downstream face. The outer ring assembly comprises an outer ring rotatably coupled to the inner ring, and a plurality of rolling elements that resides between the inner ring and the outer ring. An output shaft air/oil separator system comprises an outer housing, an oil passage, a spline shaft having a cavity formed therein that communicates with the oil passage, an output shaft disposed at least partially within the spline shaft cavity that has a first section spaced apart from an inner surface of the spline shaft to form a gap therebetween in communication with the spline shaft cavity and a second section contacting at least a portion of the spline shaft inner surface, a housing cavity defined by at least a portion of an outer surface of the spline shaft and the outer housing, an annular groove formed in the spline shaft communicating with the spline shaft cavity, and at least one port extending between the spline shaft inner and outer surfaces in communication with the annular groove and the housing cavity.

A torque limiter for use on an aircraft comprises a drive shaft having a toothed outer portion, an output shaft, and a spline having an aperture therethrough for receiving the toothed portion. The spline is configured to rotationally couple the drive shaft to the output shaft and to rotationally disengage from the output shaft when the torque at the drive shaft exceeds a predetermined torque threshold. The spline comprises an outer annular portion and an inner annular portion configured to receive a lubricant. The inner annular portion comprises a plurality of circumferentially-spaced tooth structures and root structures. At least one of the root structures has at least one slot therein for receiving and retaining the lubricant.

A preload system for bearings in a waterjet propulsion apparatus, the apparatus including a water intake section and a pumping unit including a bearing cartridge. The bearing cartridge is designed such that during operation a preload system provides tailoring between radial and axial thermal growths of a plurality of bearing components that comprise the bearing cartridge and such that an initial ambient temperature preload condition can be maintained or reduced during normal water mode operation conditions. The preload system includes a plurality of spacers that when positioned relative to the bearing components of the bearing cartridge prevent relative motion between the bearing components during land mode operation and maintain or reduce the initial ambient room temperature preload condition during normal water mode operation.

An air turbine starter is provided that includes a check valve assembly. The check valve assembly comprises a valve body, a valve seat and a valve element. The valve body includes an inlet port, an outlet port, and a flow passage extending therebetween. The valve seat is coupled to the valve body, extends at least partially into the flow passage and has an opening therethrough. The valve element is disposed within the flow passage between the valve seat and the valve body outlet port. The valve element is also configured to translate axially between an open position and a closed position in response to a pressure differential between the inlet and outlet ports.
