A structure is described for forming a wrapper, e.g., for print media, where the structure includes lines of weakness for facilitating a user's tearing of the wrapper to access the contents. The lines of weakness may include a first line of weakness that extends along a fold line of an envelope fold forming one of the front or rear or right sides of the wrapped package, as well as a second line of weakness that extends substantially perpendicularly to the respective longitudinal fold lines and a third line of weakness that extends between the first line of weakness and the second line of weakness and is disposed at a non-zero angle with respect to each. In this way, a tear initiated near the first line of weakness and may be propagated along the other lines of weakness to create an opening for accessing the product.

Easy-open media wrapper

A structure is described for forming a wrapper, e.g., for print media, where the structure includes a line of weakness for facilitating a user's tearing of the wrapper to access the contents. The line of weakness may include a first line of weakness portion that extends along a fold line of an envelope fold forming one of the front or rear or right sides of the wrapped package, as well as a second line of weakness portion that extends substantially perpendicularly to the respective longitudinal fold lines and a connecting line of weakness portion that extends between the first line of weakness portion and the second line of weakness portion and is disposed at a non-zero angle with respect to each. In this way, a tear initiated near the first line of weakness portion and may be propagated along the other portions to create an opening for accessing the product.

A flexible packaging laminate for a microwavable package has a built-in vent for steam. The vent is formed by an outer score line through the outer layer(s) of the laminate to define an outer flap, and a smaller-footprint inner score line formed through the inner layer(s) of the laminate, so that there is a marginal region of U- or V-shape bounded between the two score lines. A patch of pressure-sensitive adhesive is disposed between the outer and inner structures of the laminate such that PSA is present in the marginal region. Pressure exerted on the inner flap or plug created by the inner score line overcomes the PSA between the outer flap and the inner structure in the marginal region, causing the outer flap to be pushed out along with the inner flap or plug, thereby venting steam through the resulting opening.

Hermetic microwavable package with automatically opening steam vent

A flexible package is defined by an inner package layer and a surrounding outer package layer. The inner and outer layers define a tubular body and opposing end portions. A first region of weakness is provided within the outer package layer and is spaced from one end of the package. The region of weakness within the outer packaging layer forms an opening mechanism for the outer layer to expose the inner packaging layer. A second region of weakness is provided within the inner package layer and is spaced from the end of the inner package. The second region of weakness positioned offset from the first region of weakness, to permit the two opening mechanism to be separately activated.
