Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for preregistering with a second network a mobile device that is currently being serviced by a first network that utilizes a different wireless-communications technology than the second network. An embodiment of the method includes facilitating wireless communications with a plurality of wireless devices by way of one or more base stations that form a portion of the second network, which utilizes a first type of wireless technology; and receiving by way of a portion of the internet, and not through any of the one or more base stations, a preregistration request that was sent through the first network and that is associated with the mobile device, which is currently being serviced by the first network, the preregistration request including identifying information that is useable to identify the mobile device and further including a request to prepare the second network to service the mobile device.

Discovering resources to facilitate preregistration with a wireless communications network

A system, a method and computer-readable media for establishing connectivity over a plurality of access technologies. A system is provided that includes a client device. The client device is configured to communicate over a network by utilizing at least two access technologies. The system also includes a gateway in communication with the client device. The gateway includes multiple access technology termination nodes configured to support communications utilizing multiple access technologies. The gateway also includes a registration manager configured to assign the client device an address for identifying the client device. The registration manager is further configured to maintain the address assigned to the client device when the client device switches from utilizing a first access technology to utilizing a second access technology.

A method, system, and computer-readable medium are provided for maintaining a network session between a network element and a network despite the need to reauthenticate the network element. A computer-implemented method is provided for authenticating a network element to a network. According to this method, an authentication request is transmitted to the network element. In response, the network element provides identifying information for a home agent that previously routed messages to the network element. The identifying information is then used to generate a mobility key. Later, when a network registration request message is received on behalf of the network element, the generated key is used to validate the request.

Session continuity on reauthentication

Methods and computer-readable media are provided to enable an Internet protocol (IP) data session to be established between a mobile device and a telecommunications network. To establish an IP data session, it may be determined, prior to authenticating the device, whether the device is authorized to communicate via IPv4, IPv6, or both. A mobile device may be capable of communicating via both IPv4 and IPv6, such as a dual-stack device, but the device may only be authorized for either IPv4 or IPv6. A request to establish the IP data session may first be received from a mobile device, and an IP version with which the mobile device is authorized to communicate may then be determined by querying a customer-profile database. This authorization information may be communicated to an authentication component that authenticates the devices, and subsequently, an IP data session is initiated.

Optimizing device authentication by discovering internet protocol version authorizations

A system and a method for enabling network communications between mobile client devices and home networks without regard to the access technology employed by the mobile client device. A system is provided that includes a plurality of mobile nodes configured to communicate over a network using different access technologies. Some of the mobile nodes, for example, may communicate using CDMA. Others may communicate using WiMAX. Still others may use other access technologies. The system also includes a foreign agent. The foreign agent is configured to provide foreign agent services to mobile nodes using different access technologies.
