A mooring system for securing a floating vessel to the sea floor comprises a plurality of mooring legs, at least one of which includes separate first and second mooring lines. The first mooring line comprises a first end which is connected to the vessel and the second mooring line comprises a first end which is secured to the sea floor. The mooring system also comprises a connection and tensioning device which includes a body, a bore which extends through the body, a chain stopper for adjustably securing the first mooring line to the body, and a connector for connecting a second end of the second mooring line to the body. In use, a second end of the first mooring line is inserted into the bore and the first mooring line is pulled through the bore while the body is subject to an opposing pulling force. Once the first mooring line is pulled through the bore a desired distance, the chain stopper maintains the first mooring line in position relative to the body to thereby secure the vessel to the sea floor.

Mooring apparatus and method

A mooring arrangement between a floating storage body spread moored in deep water and a shuttle tanker, the arrangement including a single point buoyant member that is adapted for mooring a shuttle tanker in offloading position relative to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) with a link between the floating storage body and the single point buoyant member. One embodiment () of the invention employs a submerged yoke (), having one end () rotatably coupled to a FPSO () and a second end (), supported by a buoy. A mooring hawser () extends from the buoy to the shuttle tanker and product hoses connect the shuttle tanker with the FPSO and extend along the submerged yoke. In another embodiment, the mooring buoy is stationed by a hold-back mooring system () and the FPSO or the tanker or both is provide with traction device () to move the tanker into loading position with respect to the FPSO. Other embodiments of the invention establish mooring of a shuttle tanker so that it can weathervane 360 degrees during offloading activity. In another embodiment, the mooring buoy () is provided with a dynamic positioning system () for controlling shuttle tanker positioning with respect to conditions of the environment or for moving the tanker to a desired position during loading.

Offloading arrangements and method for spread moored FPSOs

An arrangement and pull-in method for fluidly coupling a steel riser to a flowline of a turret on a FSO/FPSO. The riser is pulled into a connector by a pull-in line inside the flowline. A pull-in head is releasable secured inside the upper end of the riser. The pull-in head is released from the riser after the riser is locked into the connector. A flex joint is placed above the connector to provide alignment of the connector to the riser during installation.

Riser pull-in method and apparatus

A self-righting buoy having an oil/water sensor is provided which includes a radio transmitter or signaling beacon to trail a loading hose or a potential source of leaking oil, such as a FPSO, down current for remote detection of oil sheens.

Oil-in-water detector buoy arrangement

A method and apparatus for replacing an existing looped non-metallic mooring line (20) from a floating anchor handling vessel (10) anchored to the sea floor. The existing looped line (20) extends about a sheave (34) adjacent a subsea anchor means (24) and opposed ends (26) of the looped line (20) are connected to a mounting member (30) on the vessel (10) for securing the ends (26) of the existing mooring line (20). The new replacement line (20A) is attached to an end of the looped existing line (20) and the old existing line (20) is hauled in while the looped replacement line (20A) is payed out from the vessel (10) about the sheave (34) for return to the vessel. The looped replacement line (20A) is disconnected from the old line (20) and the ends of the new replacement line (20A) are secured to a mounting member (30) on the vessel. The existing mooring line (20) is preferably replaced by the anchor handling vessel (10) while a main floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel (12) remains moored to the sea floor by the remaining mooring legs or lines.

Looped mooring line and method of installation

A spread mooring arrangement is provided for use in deep water (greater than 200 meters) when it is advantageous to maximize the clearance between shuttle tankers used for product offloading and the anchor legs associated with a spread mooring of the permanently moored tanker. Mooring insert tubes are provided at the bow and stern of the vessel. Bow mooring lines extend from the sea floor, through an opening of the bottom of the hull of the vessel and via a bow mooring insert tube for securement on a chain pull-up deck. Stern mooring lines extend from the sea floor through an opening in the bottom of the hull of the vessel and via a stern mooring insert tube for securement on a chain pull-up deck. Space is available on one side of the vessel for a porch for securement of production risers, work over risers and control umbilicals, thereby providing flexibility of the use of the vessel for the circumstance where production methods for the oil filled change during its lifetime or where other fields need to be coupled to the vessel with risers.

Double point mooring system

A disconnectable vessel mooring system including a storage vessel (10) with a turret (32) mounted therein so that the vessel is free to weathervane about an anchored turret. A spider buoy (44) in a docked position is received within the turret (32) with the upper part of the buoy at a position above the sea water level to permit dry servicing of the buoy (44). Anchor legs (68) in the docked position are secured to the turret (32) by securing means (71). Guide tubes (72) on the outer surface of the buoy (44) receive the anchor legs (68) therein for limited longitudinal travel. Selected anchor legs (68) may be disconnected from the buoy (44) when detached from the turret (32) for lowering onto the sea floor to reduce the weight of anchor legs supported by the buoy (44).

Disconnectable turret mooring system utilizing a spider buoy

A riser buoy (36) supports a plurality of risers (19) and is releasably docked within a generally cylindrical turret (20) of a floating storage vessel (10) at a location above the sea level (12) to provide dry access to quick disconnect/connect mating couplings (32, 40) on the turret (20) and riser buoy (36). A weight (58) connected by anchor chain (44) to riser buoy (36) is connected at its upper end to a retrieval line (60) which is controlled by a winch (62). Riser buoy (36) upon disconnection from vessel (10) is positioned at a predetermined submerged water depth below tanker traffic and high wave loads. Riser buoy (36) is docked within turret (20) independently of positioning means such as anchor chains (17) between the sea bed and the turret, or a thrusting positioning system including thrusters (16) of the vessel.
