An animal collar includes a collar portion including a housing portion and a plurality of extension portions. Each extension portion can include an insert having a snap receiver aperture extending through the extension portion, as well as a strap receiver having a strap insertion slot and a snap fitting. The snap fitting includes a cap retention slot and one or more snap extensions positioned to engage an interior circumferential ridge of the snap receiver aperture when the snap fitting is inserted into the snap receiver aperture from the first side. The extension portion further includes a retention cap insertable into the snap receiver aperture from the second side and including at least one cap retention extension mateable with the cap retention slot and at least one cap extension positioned adjacent the one or more snap extensions.

A method is described that comprises receiving a filtered signal corresponding to an acoustic event, applying one or more tests to the filtered signal in a sequence, wherein each test of the one or more tests assesses the filtered signal for the presence of one or more characteristics, the determining the presence of the one or more characteristics comprising a failure to identify the acoustic event as a first event, terminating the applying the one or more tests when a test determines the presence of the one or more characteristics, and identifying the acoustic event as the first event upon an occurrence of completing all tests of the one or more tests, the completing all tests including each test in the sequence determining the absence of the one or more characteristics.

A collar unit device is described comprising a receiving cavity for receiving a metal electrode probe, wherein at least one elastomeric ring encircles the metal electrode probe, wherein the at least one elastomeric ring mechanically isolates the metal electrode probe from the receiving cavity. The device includes a retainer component for maintaining the piezoelectric element in a secured position, wherein the secured position comprises the piezoelectric element maintaining contact with the metal electrode probe. The device includes the metal electrode probe for detecting vibrations of one or more acoustic events and transferring the vibrations to the piezoelectric element through the contact, the piezoelectric element for receiving the vibrations of one or more acoustic events, the receiving the vibrations including generating an electrical signal proportional to the frequency and magnitude of the vibrations, and at least one processor for receiving and processing the electrical signal.

A system and apparatus to track and control an animal is described, including a tracking unit to track the animal, and a stimulus unit to provide a stimulus to the animal, wherein the tracking unit and stimulus unit are configured to be coupled together. The stimulus unit is entirely a slave device to the tracking unit and has no independent smart circuitry, no independent power supply and no antennae. Accordingly, the stimulation unit is dependent upon the tracking unit for operation, power and for communication to and from a remote hand held control device.

The second device can include a compass element to provide a compass reading corresponding to an orientation of the second device, and a controller to calculate location and direction information of the first device relative to the second device, and a display unit to display a graphical representation indicating the location and direction of the first device relative to the second device.

Disclosed is a pneumatic liquid nutrient dispensing assembly for hydroponically cultivated plants. The assembly includes a reservoir and a liquid nutrient dispenser disposed within the reservoir. The liquid nutrient dispenser includes a substantially coaxial pump body with inner and outer tubes forming a distribution end having a distribution hub and an inlet end having a liquid intake structure. Airflow in an annular duct formed between the walls of the coaxial tubes enters the inner tube through an annular passage and carries liquid nutrient within the inner tube to the distribution hub. Distribution members fluidly connected to the distribution hub direct a flow of liquid nutrients and air to one or more plants.
