A mechanically locking diverter utilizes a rotational actuator to translate a pin, thereby moving a diverter flipper between a divert position and a non-divert position. The diverter flipper moves a roller attached to a pin attached to a shoe that translates along a slat. A divert rail system for an automated sortation machine has a generally longitudinal main rail, a plurality of generally transverse slats, a plurality of shoes, each shoe being configured to travel along a corresponding slat, each slat terminating in a side wall, the divert rail system including a plurality of divert rails branching off from the main rail, each divert rail forming an angle of about 21 degrees or more with the main rail and terminating at and end, such that the divert rail does not curve back toward the longitudinal direction, wherein the length of each divert rail is selected, such that the each shoe travels transversely past the end of the divert rail and stops at a transverse stopping position that is at least 1.5 inches away from the side wall of the slat.

Mechanically locking diverter

An automated parcel singulator includes a conveyor system, a control and monitoring system, an infeed table, and a hopper system. The hopper system stores and dispenses parcels and boxes onto the infeed table. The infeed tables singulates and moves the boxes and parcels, so that when the boxes and parcels are placed on the conveyor system they form a single line of packages.

A high-speed print-and-apply label applicator includes a conveyor system, a control and monitoring system, a label web feeding assembly, a label printer and encoder system, and a tamp pad assembly driven by a linear motor having a shaft that is formed at least partially by a composite material. The tamp pad assembly includes a tamp pad having an upturned label ramp at the trailing edge of the tamp pad, an upturned anti-catch ramp at the leading edge of the tamp pad, and a flexible applicator. A document sorting machine having dual feeders which feed documents onto common tiers of sort pockets form each end of the machine. The machine includes an induction buffer section which prevents a document already in the transport on a particular tier from colliding with a document being fed into the same transport by a different feeder. Also, the machine includes a serpentine piggy-back unit which can stack consecutive documents going to the same sort pocket.

A machine and method to sort documents in a plurality of pockets includes a stacker having a tier of the plurality of pockets and two magazines positioned at the same end of the stacker. A first transport and a second transport are operably associated with the first magazine and the second magazine, respectively, and are adapted to carry the documents through the stacker. The method includes separating the documents into a first portion and a second portion, the first portion being carried by a first transport through a first end of a stacker, the second portion being carried by a second transport and through a second end of the stacker, and merging the second portion with the first portion.

Document sorting machine

A machine to sort documents includes a stacker having a tier of the plurality of pockets and a magazine positioned at one end of the stacker. A first transport and a second transport operably associated with the magazine are configured to carry the documents through the stacker. A document sorting machine having at least one pocket for stacking documents according to a common criteria. Each pocket has a gate for diverting the document from the transport of the machine and into the designated pocket. The pocket also has a kicker for moving the tail of the document away from the pocket's entry and into the pocket and a detent which allows the tail to be moved into the pocket but which prevents the tail from moving back towards the pocket's entry after the tail of the document has been moved into the pocket.
