A method for monitoring the progress of post-operative ambulation is disclosed. A patient after a surgical procedure such as an operation is provided with an ambulatory routine. The ambulatory routine is monitored using a wearable biosensor device operable to track steps of the patient. The steps of the patient in following the ambulatory routine are recorded. The ambulation data is displayed on a periodic basis to provide feedback to both the patient and health care professionals.

Method and system for postoperative ambulation monitoring and feedback using wearable biosensors

Described herein are methods and systems for monitoring acoustical activity from the abdominal region to guide the optimal timing of food ingestion. According to one embodiment of the method, the rate of intestinal digestion events, as well as the change in the rate across specific time periods, is analyzed to guide ingestion behavior in a way that improves health. The result of guidance may be to reduce weight in people who are obese, to improve performance in athletes seeking to balance energy availability and energy expenditure, or to increase caloric intake in people who are undernourished. The method can be applied using a smartphone application to provide contextually appropriate and specific user guidance about whether, when, and how much to eat in a manner that aligns with the physiologic patterns of intestinal activity.

Methods for optimizing the timing of food ingestion through monitoring of acoustical activity of the abdominal region

Described herein are kits and methods for identifying the likelihood of having a food sensitivity or intolerance, and determining dietary modifications accordingly. For example, the likelihood of having sensitivities, intolerances or allergies to gluten, lactose, FODMAPs and others tested and calculated. Additionally, diet modifications can be determined according to the likelihood of particular sensitivities, and the effectiveness of diet modifications can be evaluated by monitoring of meals and subsequent symptoms, and evaluating the monitoring information. Through application of the methods herein, dietary intake and symptom data may be collected and aggregated to evaluate the effect or desirability of particular foods on a population of interest.

Methods and kits for identifying food sensitivities and intolerances

Described herein is a method employing acoustic data from a patient's abdominal cavity to predict potential onset of postoperative ileus (POI) in patients recovering from surgery. According to one embodiment of the method, the rate of intestinal motility events, as well as the change in the rate across specific time periods, is analyzed to predict, or rule out, potential onset of POI. The current risk assessment may then be reported, and used to determine a course of treatment, such as rapidly advancing diet in low risk patients according to enhanced recovery after surgery protocols. The method can be applied at the patient's bedside by a nurse or other medical provider, and used to determine the POI risk assessment for the patient.

Methods for prediction of postoperative ileus (POI)

An abdominal statistics system including a low profile rapidly deployable sensor element having an acoustic sensor and vibration actuator that can be conveniently attached to the abdomen of a patient. The system acquires acoustic signals as gastrointestinal (GI) sounds, processes these signals, and provides actionable data to patients and their providers.
