Methods and systems are provided for power management in communication devices, particularly based on cable connectivity. A power management component in a system may be configured to manage power use in the system based on measurements associated with a signal path used for communication by the system via a communication port, wherein the managing includes. Managing the power use may include determining, based on the measurements, connectivity related information associated with connectivity of the system via the communication port; applying, based on the connectivity related information, one or more power use reduction measures, wherein the one or more power use reduction measures include transitioning between different power related states; and monitoring one or more conditions to determine when to stop, undo, or reverse at least one of the one or more power use reduction measures.

Methods and systems for power management in communication devices based on cable connectivity

An outdoor satellite receiving unit (ODU) receives several independent satellite signals, selects two signals with a switch matrix, downconverts the two signals to a bandstacked signal with a high and a low band signal, and outputs the bandstacked signal on the same cable to receiver units. Several satellite signals can be selected in groups of two or more and output to independent receiver units. Signal selecting is performed at the received radio frequency (RF) and bandstacking is performed with a single downconversion step to an intermediate frequency (IF). Channel stacking on the same cable of more than two channels from several satellites can be achieved by using frequency agile downconverters and bandpass filters prior to combining at the IF output. A slow transitioning switch minimizes signal disturbances when switching and maintains input impedance at a constant value.

Satellite signal frequency translation and stacking

Systems and methods are provided for compensating for mechanical acceleration at a reference oscillator. A reference oscillator provides an oscillator output signal and an accelerometer on a same platform as the reference oscillator, such that mechanical acceleration at the reference oscillator is detected at the accelerometer to produce a measured acceleration. A filter assembly, having an associated set of filter weights, receives the measured acceleration from the accelerometer and provides a tuning control signal responsive to the measured acceleration to a frequency reference associated with the system. An adaptive weighting component receives the oscillator output signal of the reference oscillator and an external signal that is provided from a source external to the platform and adjusts the set of filter weights for the filter assembly based on a comparison of the external signal and the oscillator output signal.

Adaptive microphonics noise cancellation

Methods and systems are provided for power management in communication devices, particularly based on cable connectivity. A power management component in a system may be configured to obtain measurements associated with a signal path used for communication by the system via a communication port, and manage power use in the system based on the obtained measurement. Managing the power use may include determining, based on the obtained measurements, connectivity related information associated with connectivity of the system via the communication port, and applying based on the information one or more power use reduction measures, with the one or more power use reduction measures including at least transitioning between different power related states.

To reduce signal distortion, a remote terminal receives a quadrature-modulated transmitter-check signal from a user terminal. The remote terminal measures an in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) imbalance error and/or a direct current (DC) offset error in the transmitter-check signal. The remote terminal then transmits to the user terminal transmitter-correction information derived from an I/Q imbalance error or a DC offset error. The transmitter-correction information is for counteracting the I/Q imbalance error or the DC offset error at the user terminal.

Reducing signal distortion using I/Q imbalance or DC offset errors

A USB-to-coaxial network bridging system and method includes receiving data frames from a USB or FireWire device via a corresponding USB or FireWire communication interface, wherein the received data frames are intended for transmittal to a predetermined remote device on a coaxial network; combining the received data frames into an aggregated frame and addressing the aggregated frame to allow the aggregated frame to be routed to the predetermined remote device on the coaxial network; and sending the aggregated frame to the remote device over the coaxial network.

Systems and methods for providing power to a home entertainment integrated circuit chip are disclosed. The home entertainment integrated circuit chip can operate in at least two power control modes: 'power on' mode and 'standby' mode. In power on mode, power is supplied to IC core module from a main power supply. The power supplied to the IC core module is isolated from power supplied to a standby island. Accordingly, during the second mode power is applied only to the standby power island through a regulator internal to the integrated circuit chip. The regulator is coupled to an external peripheral input/output (I/O) power supply that is independent of the main power supply.

Method and apparatus for providing standby power to an integrated circuit

Circuits and methods for reducing the cost and/or power consumption of a user terminal and/or the gateway of a telecommunications system that may include a telecommunications satellite. Embodiments include 'chained' feedback-regulated voltage supply circuits. These circuits substantially eliminate the need for separate regulator circuits for each regulated voltage. These circuits are designed to automatically maintain a substantially constant first voltage at a first node for a first load and maintain a substantially constant second voltage at a second node for a second load. Some disclosed configurations of these circuits may be useful to achieve greater current capability at the same voltage without requiring larger switches and higher inductor and capacitor sizes that may be needed in a single (conventional) stage voltage supply circuit.

Multi-stage chained feedback regulated voltage supply

Systems and methods are described herein for multi-mode compensation of frequency errors within signals transmitted and received by a mobile terminal. The frequency error can be due to Doppler shift and oscillator error, which introduce opposite frequency shifts. In an acquisition mode, the mobile terminal initially compensates for the oscillator error while transmitting a signal to a communication system that contains the Doppler shift. Upon receiving a message from the communication system indicating the Doppler shift contained in the transmit signal, the mobile terminal can then switch to a tracking mode that can compensate for both Doppler shift and oscillator error.

Multi-mode frequency compensation in mobile terminals

Methods and systems are provided for power management in communication devices, particularly based on cable connectivity. In a communication device that includes a communication port, including a first connector and a signal path communicatively coupled to the connector, measurements associated with the signal path may be obtained. Based on the obtained measurements, it may be determined whether an external cable is mated to the connector, and the communication device may be transition to a sleep mode when it is determined that the external cable is not mated to the connector. Determining whether the external cable is mated may be based on detecting presence or absence of a signal on the signal path, based on evaluating signal characteristics of a signal present on the signal path, measuring of voltage or current at the communication port, and/or energy measurements associated with one or more particular frequencies.
