Acrylic copolymers that include the controlled placement of functional groups within the polymer structure are provided. The copolymers contain a reactive segment and a non-reactive segment and are manufactured via a controlled radical polymerization process. The copolymers are useful in the manufacture of adhesives and elastomers.

Acrylic polymers having controlled placement of functional groups

Modification of functional groups along a polymer backbone to render the groups activatable upon exposure to actinic radiation is described. The polymers are typically controlled architecture polymers. Also described are adhesives containing the modified architectured polymers and related methods of use.

Post-polymerization functionalization of pendant functional groups

Methods for forming melt processable, actinic radiation polymerizable and crosslinkable adhesives are described. In certain versions, the adhesives or pre-adhesive compositions include two initiators and are polymerized and/or crosslinked by exposure to actinic radiation such as UV light or electron beam radiation. Also described are pre-adhesive compositions including polymerizable monomers, articles including the adhesives, and various methods and systems related to the adhesives and their application. In addition, various apparatuses are described for polymerizing or crosslinking the compositions.

Two stage methods for processing adhesives and related compositions

Cure in place pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are described that comprise one or more of a bodying component, a structural diluent, a radical diluent as well as additives such as crosslinkers, external catalysts, photoinitiators and stabilizers/process aids. The bodying component can be acrylic or non-acrylic.

Adhesives and related methods

A variety of adhesive laminates are described, many of which perform functions such as liquid indication, outgassing, liquid retention, electrical conducting, and sound channeling. Also described are adhesive regions on face materials in which the regions exhibit particular dimensional proportions. Methods involving direct and transfer coating of adhesives are also described. In a particular version, a method of roll to roll transfer coating of sprayed pressure sensitive adhesives is described. Also described are various adhesive films and laminates many of which can be produced using the methods.

Adhesive laminates and method for making adhesive laminates

Acrylic copolymers that include the controlled placement of particular functional groups within the polymer structure are provided. The copolymers comprise a first reactive segment of including a functional group selected from the group consisting of a UV active functional group, a reactive functional group, a non-reactive functional group, and combinations thereof and a second segment including a functional group selected from the group consisting of a reactive functional group, a non-reactive functional group, and combinations thereof. The acrylic copolymers are manufactured via a controlled radical polymerization process. The copolymers are useful in the manufacture of adhesives and elastomers.

Controlled architecture polymerization with photoinitiator groups in backbone

Pressure sensitive adhesives which can be converted to form structural adhesives are described. The pressure sensitive adhesives include a blend of acrylic PSA resins in combination with one or more particular urethane (meth)acrylate oligomers.
