A method of firestopping a through-penetration is disclosed, which makes use of a fusible inorganic blended-fiber web. The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web can provide a fire-stopped through-penetration without the use of sealants, intumescent materials, and the like. The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web may comprise a blend of at least first, low melting inorganic fibers and second, high melting inorganic fibers. The fusible inorganic blended-fiber web comprises a bulk density of at least about 7 pounds per cubic foot (0.112 grams/cc).

Method of firestopping a through-penetration using a fusible inorganic blended-fiber web

Methods are disclosed by which melt-formed inorganic fibers may be processed to form a gravity-laid inorganic fiber web. The gravity-laying process comprises mechanically separating the melt-formed inorganic fibers and collecting the fibers, and may comprise blending the melt-formed inorganic fibers with other inorganic fibers and/or with inorganic particulate additives.

Herein are disclosed are apparatus and methods for forming firestopped through-penetrations in poured concrete partitions. The apparatus and methods use an intumescent firestop ring that can be used in combination with a removable sleeve. The firestop ring is detachably mounted on the outer surface of the sleeve form, near one end of the sleeve. The sleeve is positioned and concrete poured around it. After solidification of the concrete the sleeve can be removed to provide a through-penetration containing the firestop ring, secured to the solidified concrete. The firestop ring may optionally comprise one or more retainers and/or one or more insulating spacers.
