An electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays a first authentication user interface on the display, the first authentication user interface including a text entry field for entering a text-based authentication code; detects a first input by a user on the touch-sensitive surface while displaying the first authentication user interface; in response to detecting the first input, displays a second authentication user interface on the display, distinct from the first authentication user interface, the second authentication user interface configured for entering a gesture-based authentication code; while displaying the second authentication user interface, detects one or more gestures by the user at locations on the touch-sensitive surface that correspond to locations on the second authentication user interface; and authenticates the user in accordance with a determination that the detected one or more gestures correspond to a gesture-based authentication code for the user.

Device, method, and graphical user interface for switching between two user interfaces

Payment transactions may be initiated by entering payment information, such as an amount, source, and recipient, through a graphical user interface (GUI) of an electronic device. The electronic device may transmit the payment information to a payment processor, such as a third party provider, bank, or the like, that may subsequently transmit an authorization request to an electronic device associated with the recipient. In certain embodiments, the recipient may identify a payment account and transmit the account information with the authorization to the payment processor. Upon receiving the authorization, the payment processor may transmit recipient identification information to the payor's electronic device. The payor may then confirm the identity of the payment recipient and confirm payment. Upon receiving the confirmation, the payment processor may process the payment. In other embodiments, certain authorizations and/or confirmations may be omitted, allowing more instantaneous payments to occur.

Electronic device enabled payments

Techniques are provided for entering and saving a gesture on a touch-sensitive display device. In one embodiment, the device displays an array of visible graphical elements and may detect a gesture based on a user's touch of the visible graphical elements as well as on hidden areas not displayed to the user. For example, the device may detect a user's touch over hidden dots between the visible graphical elements or through hidden lines connecting the visible graphical elements. Some embodiments may include algorithms for improving accuracy in detecting the intended gesture. For example, the device may estimate possible or probable paths based on a current user touch position. In some embodiments, the visible graphical elements may be illuminated when a touch of the visible graphical elements is detected, or a disc representing a user's touch may be displayed as the user enters a gesture.

Gesture entry techniques

Techniques are provided for entering, verifying, and saving a gesture on a touch-sensitive display device. In one embodiment, the device displays a gesture entry screen where a user enters a gesture. The device estimates the entered gesture and displays the estimated gesture on a gesture replay screen. The estimated gesture may be replayed repeatedly until stopped, and the device may display a gesture verification screen where the user may reenter the gesture. The device verifies if the re-entered gesture is substantially the same as the original estimated gesture. Some embodiments include a visible trace following a user's touch on the touch-sensitive display, where the trace may change in color and/or length depending on the speed, duration, and/or complexity of an entered gesture. Some embodiments include display indicator(s) (e.g., a strength bar, color change, timer, etc.) to indicate the strength and/or elapsed time during an entry or replay of a gesture.

The present disclosure provides for the use of non-alphanumeric, non-biometric inputs to authenticate a user accessing secured data or functions on an electronic device. In one embodiment, an authentication screen is invoked by use of a gesture input via a touch-sensitive structure. In such an embodiment, an authentication screen may be invoked with no outward appearance on the display as to the existence of the data or function for which access is sought. The authentication may be based upon a gesture, a sequence of selected objects, or another non-alphanumeric, non-biometric input.

User authentication on an electronic device

The present disclosure provides for the establishment of a trust relationship between two parties, such as based on verification by a third-party known to the two parties. In one embodiment, the two parties may include an electronic device (or a user of such a device) on which information about an account is to be stored and an entity having the authority to authorize storing the account information on the electronic device. Once authorization is granted to store the account information on the electronic device, direct communications may occur between the electronic device and the authorizing entity in a trusted manner, without further involvement of the third party.

Secure communication between trusted parties

Various techniques are provided for establishing financial transaction rules to control one or more subsidiary financial accounts. In one embodiment, a financial account management application stored on a processor-based device may provide an interface for defining financial transaction rules to be applied to a subsidiary account. The financial transaction rules may be based upon transaction amounts, aggregate spending amounts over a period, merchant categories, specific merchants, geographic locations, or the like. The device may update the financial transaction rules associated with a subsidiary account by communicating the rules to an appropriate financial server. Accordingly, transactions made using the subsidiary account by a subsidiary account holder may be evaluated against the defined rules, wherein an appropriate control action is carried out if a financial transaction rule is violated.

Parental controls

Methods and devices for confirming payment transactions are provided. In one embodiment, an electronic device may include a graphical user interface (GUI) with one or more graphical elements that may be moved by a user to confirm or decline a payment transaction using a selected payment instrument. For example, a user may drag the graphical element to a confirmation position via a touch screen of the electronic device. In another example, a motion sensing device, such as an accelerometer, may sense movement of the electronic device and move the graphical element in response to the motion. Upon confirmation, payment information for the payment transaction may be transmitted to a merchant or payment recipient. Various additional methods, machine-readable media, and devices for confirming payment transactions are provided.

Motion based payment confirmation

There is provided a method and system for real-time authorization of cardholder-not-present transactions. An authorization request application may be implemented on an electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal media player, or a computer. A cardholder may register a card account, such as a credit account, a debit account, a gift card account, and so forth, for participation in the real-time authorization program. The cardholder may then receive authorization requests when cardholder-not-present transactions are attempted. Via the authorization request application, the cardholder may approve or decline the authorization request. In addition, the cardholder may configure settings for automatically responding to missed authorization requests. The authorization request application may also allow the cardholder to flag automatically approved requests as unauthorized within a certain time period after an automatic approval response is sent, thereby enabling prompt detection of fraudulent activity.
