A playback device comprises an electroacoustic transducer; an acoustic waveguide in fluid communication with the transducer; and a housing delimiting an opening of the waveguide, the opening extending around an axis passing through the transducer. The opening may have a radial distance from the axis that varies with an azimuthal angle about the axis. An acoustic path length within the waveguide, between the transducer and the opening, is substantially constant and independent of azimuthal angle about the axis.

Earphone positioning and retention mechanisms are disclosed. One earphone described includes a speaker driver, a flexible eartip comprising a first oval shaped contact surface at an opening forming a hole through the eartip, the first oval shaped contact surface configured to contact an outer surface of a user's ear canal when worn, a body portion comprising a second contact surface configured to position behind an anti-tragus portion of the user's ear, and, a retaining member formed of a compliant material, comprising a third contact surface configured to conform to a cymba conch portion of the user's ear, where the body portion and the retaining member are shaped in a way that the second contact surface contacts the anti-tragus portion and the third contact surface contacts the cymba conch portion at the same time, when the first contact surface is already in contact with the outer surface of the ear canal.

A method for joining sides of a speaker enclosure includes affixing a speaker grill element to a substructure element, where the speaker grill element has a depth that is shorter than its length and width, includes a first surface and a second surface parallel to each other, and includes hole openings, where the substructure element has a depth that is shorter than its length and width, includes protrusions above its front surface, and includes openings larger than the openings in the speaker grill element, and where the speaker grill element is aligned lengthwise to a first plane, inserting the joined speaker grill element and substructure element into a mould, where in combination with portions of the speaker grill element and the substructure element, a surface of the mould forms a mould cavity, and injecting molten plastic into the mould cavity to form an injection moulded side element.

A playback device comprises an acoustic waveguide having a bounding surface, the bounding surface delimiting an opening. A drainage channel extends from the opening and is arranged to direct liquid from inside the waveguide toward a drainage outlet.

Embodiments for a speaker basket of a speaker assembly are provided. A speaker basket may include a central opening through which a speaker sub-assembly may be mounted and a conductive material that includes: (i) a central portion molded within the speaker basket, (ii) an input portion configured to be coupled to an output of an audio source, and (iii) an output portion configured to be coupled to an input of the speaker sub-assembly.

Embodiments for speaker terminals of a speaker assembly are provided. The speaker terminals may include a first rigid conductive structure having (i) a first input terminal configured to couple to a first output of an audio source and (ii) a first output terminal configured to couple to a first input of a voice coil, and a second rigid conductive structure having (i) a second input terminal configured to couple to a second output of the audio source and (ii) a second output terminal configured to couple to a second input of the voice coil. A speaker basket is molded about at least a portion the first rigid conductive structure and at least a portion of the second rigid conductive structure. Such a speaker basket having molded within the speaker terminals may be a component in a speaker assembly.

A luminaire adapter is provided. The luminaire adapter includes a tombstone cover and a light source bracket. The tombstone cover includes a housing that defines a slot opening to accept a tombstone socket and a pair of snap connectors. The light source bracket includes a top portion and a bottom portion. The top portion and the bottom portion are configured to connect. The bottom portion includes a pair of snap receivers configured to receive the pair of snap connectors of the tombstone cover. The top portion and the bottom portion define an opening to receive a luminaire.
