An absorbent article having longitudinal cuffs of improved structure is disclosed. The improved cuffs may be elasticized by a plurality of elastic strands that are substantially greater in number, closer in spacing, lower in pre-strain, and lower in decitex, or any combination of these, as compared with those in conventional articles. This combination of features results in ruffles or gathers of cuff material joined to the elastic strands that are substantially greater in machine-direction frequency and substantially lesser in z-direction amplitude, than those in conventional articles. As a result, the cuff structure lies more closely and evenly against the wearer's skin, has an improved, more cloth-like appearance, provides improved gasketing, and provides improved wearer comfort, as compared with cuff structures in conventional articles. A method for manufacturing articles with such cuff structures, utilizing a warp beam as a supply mechanism, is also disclosed.

An absorbent article, intended to be worn by a wearer, wherein at least a part of a body facing surface of that article has a lotion composition. The lotion composition includes at least one first compound which is liquid at 25&#xb0; C. and at least one second compound which is solid at 25&#xb0; C. The first compound is a liquid polyethylene glycol, and the second compound is a solid fatty compound selected from the group consisting of solid fatty acids, solid fatty alcohol and solid fatty soaps. When the solid fatty compound is a solid fatty acid, then the total amount of liquids is higher than the total amount of solids.

A disposable treatment article or disposable cleaning article that includes a hydrophobic nanoporous material. The disposable treatment or cleaning article is configured to contact and apply the nanoporous material to a surface. The nanoporous material is configured to form hydrophobic nanostructures on a surface upon the application of an activation stimulus. The nanostructures provide an anti-contamination benefit to the surface upon which the nanostructures are disposed.

The present disclosure is generally directed, in part, to a selectively apertured nonwoven material forming a portion of a disposable absorbent article. The nonwoven material comprises a layer of bicomponent fibers, and a plurality of apertures formed in the layer of bicomponent fibers. Each aperture has a major axis and a minor axis. Each major axis is larger than each minor axis. Each major axis has a length of greater than about 1.5 mm and less than about 10 mm and each minor axis has a length of greater than about 0.4 mm and less than about 1.25 mm. The nonwoven material has a basis weight of less than 25 gsm, but greater than 10 gsm. The layer of bicomponent fibers has an effective open area greater than about 3% but less than about 30%. The apertures have an aperture area greater than about 0.5 mmand less than about 10 mm.

An absorbent article to be worn by a wearer having a skin-contacting sheet such as a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent core and a colored hydrophilic lotion, that not only helps to reduce the adherence of the menses or feces to the skin, thereby improving the ease of menses or bowl movement (BM) clean up, but that also may serve as a wetness indicator. A wetness indicating composition comprising a colorant disposed in a carrier matrix. The colorant provides a visible signal when activated by urine. The colorant resists leaching from the carrier matrix by being chemically bound to a component of the carrier matrix. The colorant may be bound by ionic or covalent bonds, or by intermolecular forces. The colorant may be a pH indicator. The wetness indicating composition may be incorporated into a wearable article, such as a disposable absorbent article.

The expandable component can be inflatable, and includes a gas evolving material and an activating material separated from the gas evolving material by a breakable barrier. The barrier is broken to combine the materials and inflate the component at the point of use of the disposable absorbent article. An absorbent article having an expandable component. The expandable component comprises a compressed, resilient element disposed within an air impermeable envelope. The compressed element provides the absorbent article with a thin, low bulk profile prior to use of the disposable absorbent article, thereby reducing shipping and storage space. The user may open the impervious envelope, thereby permitting entry of air into the envelope and expansion of the compressed element. In one embodiment the expandable component is a spacer for maintaining fecal void space in a disposable diaper. Alternatively, the expandable component can provide displacement of the topsheet relative to the backsheet along the longitudinal centerline of a sanitary napkin.

A disposable garment having a consumer-activated component that is expandable to improve the fit and function of the garment. The expandable component includes a compressed, resilient, expansible member disposed within a sealed, air-impermeable envelope. The expandable component can be activated so that the component expands in a direction toward the body of the wearer of the garment by the application of a tensile force on the garment to expose an opening in the envelope, to thereby admit air into the envelope and allow the compressed expansible element to expand to its substantially uncompressed condition. When expanded, the expansible element can define a collection chamber for waste matter, or it can provide closer contact between the garment and the body of the wearer at predetermined areas to improve the fit of the garment to the body of the wearer, or it can provide closer contact between the garment and the body of the wearer to position an absorptive member adjacent a body opening to improve the absorption by the absorptive member of waste bodily fluids. The garment can thus be a disposable diaper, a sanitary napkin, or the like.
