A vehicle is provided with a transmission having an inductor assembly. The inductor assembly is mounted within the transmission such that it is directly cooled by transmission fluid through at least one of spraying, splashing and immersion. The transmission includes at least one gear that is configured to, when rotating, transmit torque between an input and output of the transmission and splash fluid onto the inductor assembly to cool the inductor assembly.

Temperature regulation of an inductor assembly

A vehicle is provided with a transmission and an inductor assembly that is mounted within a chamber of the transmission. The inductor assembly includes a coil, a core and an insulator having first and second portions that are oriented toward each other. Each portion includes a base, a support extending from the base, and a spool extending transversely from the support to engage the other portion. Each spool includes an external surface for supporting the coil and a cavity extending therethrough for receiving the core.

Inductor assembly support structure

A vehicle electrical power system includes a variable voltage converter. The variable voltage converter includes an inductor assembly having a housing that defines a chamber containing dielectric fluid. An inductor is disposed within the chamber and is in contact with the fluid. The power system also includes a pump configured to circulate the dielectric fluid to cool the inductor.

Liquid cooled power inductor

A vehicle includes a transmission having gears lubricated by oil and a variable voltage converter (VVC). The VVC includes an inductor arranged such that the oil contacts the inductor. The vehicle also includes at least one controller configured to operate the VVC to output a desired power. The controller, in response to a temperature of the oil being less than a threshold, alters a voltage and current of the VVC while maintaining the desired power to increase heat output by the inductor.

Transmission fluid warm-up system and method

A hybrid-electric vehicle has an engine compartment defined by a transverse rail extending generally parallel to a lateral axis of the vehicle, first and second side rails extending forwardly from the transverse rail, and a hood extending over the engine compartment. A hybrid-electric transmission is located in the engine compartment and an inverter system controller module (ISCM) is supported on an equipment shelf extending between the hybrid electric transmission and the hood. The equipment shelf includes an inclined portion attached to the transverse rail and extending upwardly and forwardly at an oblique angle; a generally horizontal tray projecting forwardly from the inclined portion above the hybrid electric transmission; and a lateral brace extending from a forward end of the tray laterally to the first side rail. The junction between the inclined portion and the tray forms a deformation trigger that absorbs crash loads.
