A global positioning system (GPS) receiver and system for determining a geographical location associated with the GPS receiver using less than four GPS signals. The system can comprise a constraint module configured to receive one or more constraints that describe at least one characteristic of a GPS receiver when a number of GPS satellites within a line of sight to the GPS receiver is below a defined value. The system can further comprise a pseudo range calculation module configured to calculate a plurality of pseudo ranges between the GPS receiver and the number GPS satellites, wherein the plurality of pseudo ranges are to various orbital positions of the GPS satellites over a period of time; and a geographical location module configured to determine the geographical location of the GPS receiver using the plurality of pseudo ranges and known constraints of motion associated with the GPS receiver.

Position and motion informed navigation system

Technology for determining a geographical location of a ground receiver is disclosed. A plurality of radio frequency (RF) signals from a plurality of RF signal carriers may be received at the ground receiver. The plurality of RF signal carriers may include satellites operated by a foreign entity or non-global positioning system (non-GPS) satellites. The ground receiver may measure a Doppler shift associated with each of the plurality of RF signals. The geographical location of the ground receiver may be determined in X, Y and Z coordinates based in part on the Doppler shift associated with each of the plurality of RF signals.

Determination of a ground receiver position

Processes and systems for use in generating an approximation of an image from its edges project a respective scaled intensity value from each edge into regions abutting positive and negative sides of the edge. Positive and negative composite edge projection maps are generated, each including a respective combination of the projected scaled intensity values. A respective ratio of combined local intensity values is determined for each edge in each of the positive and negative composite maps. Respective intensity values weighted by the respective ratios are projected for each edge into regions abutting positive and negative sides of the edge. Revised positive and negative composite, weighted edge projection maps are generated, each including a respective combination of the projected, weighted intensity values.

Approximation of an imaged object from edges detected from the underlying image

Methods for detecting objects in an image. The method includes a) receiving magnitude and orientation values for each pixel in an image and b) assigning each pixel to one of a predetermined number of orientation bins based on the orientation value of each pixel. The method also includes c) determining, for a first pixel, a maximum of all the pixel magnitude values for each orientation bin in a predetermined region surrounding the first pixel. The method also includes d) summing the maximum pixel magnitude values for each of the orientation bins in the predetermined region surrounding the first pixel, e) assigning the sum to the first pixel and f) repeating steps c), d) and e) for all the pixels in the image.
