Integrated lighting module

An overall-assembly of a downlight, with a flangeless trim, and a spackle-frame have complementary structures for repeatably attaching or detaching the downlight to the spackle-frame merely by pushing the downlight into a central hole of the spackle-frame and without use of any external/separate tools. The flangeless trim has some upward protruding members that are configured to removably attached/detached to clips and housings-for-clips. The clips are housed within the housings-for-clips. And the clips and the housings-for-clips are retained in structures of the spackle-frame. The spackle-frame would typically be permanently installed within an appropriately sized hole in drywall (or the like), such as, but not limited to, ceiling drywall. In this way, such downlights may be readily installed or removed and all without use of external/separate tools.

Light fixture

A frame for supporting a light fixture has regions of its sidewall corners that are double walled and secured with at least one mechanical-fastener (e.g., a rivet) at each such region of the sidewall corners. This results in a stronger frame that is able to support heavier loads as compared to a frame without such reinforced corner regions. The frame also has holes on its largest-planar-member for attaching to I-brackets and the I-brackets may be attached to a light-fixture-can of the light fixture. The frame also has different holes, on opposing sidewalls, that may be attached to a junction-box that covers over a largest-hole of the frame. Each I-bracket has a concave-surface for concentrically pressing up against an exterior surface of the light-fixture-can. Each I-bracket may attached to the light-fixture-can and to the frame. The I-brackets permit a height of the light-fixture-can to be set at different heights.

Frame for lighting or junction box and I-bracket

A lighting-junction-box-assembly-for-remodel (hereinafter, 'assembly') has a lighting-junction-box, leg-springs attached to the lighting-junction-box, and mounting-tabs attached to the lighting-junction-box. The leg-springs are used to (temporarily) hold (by friction) the assembly within a hole in an existing ceiling, sized to fit the assembly. While the leg-springs are (temporarily) holding the assembly within the hole in the existing ceiling, other/different holes within extension-portions of the mounting-tabs are used to secure the entire assembly to the existing ceiling, via mechanical fasteners passing through the extension-portion holes and into the existing ceiling. An existing ceiling may be retrofitted with this assembly to have a lighting-junction-box where desired/needed in that existing ceiling; and as such, this assembly is particularly useful in remodeling situations (applications); however, the assembly may also be used in new construction.

Lighting junction box

A lighting-junction-box-assembly-for-remodel (assembly) has a lighting-junction-box, leg-springs attached to the lighting-junction-box, and mounting-tabs attached to the lighting-junction-box. The leg-springs are used to (temporarily) hold (by friction) the assembly within a hole in an existing ceiling, sized to fit the assembly. While the leg-springs are (temporarily) holding the assembly within the hole in the existing ceiling, other/different holes within extension-portions of the mounting-tabs are used to secure the entire assembly to the existing ceiling, via mechanical fasteners passing through the extension-portion holes and into the existing ceiling. An existing ceiling may be retrofitted with this assembly to have a lighting-junction-box where desired/needed in that existing ceiling; and as such, this assembly is particularly useful in remodeling situations (applications); however, the assembly may also be used in new construction. The assembly may also include a second junction-box to offload some of the circuitry that would otherwise be included within a lighting can.

A mounting-frame is configured for use in a recessed lighting assembly and may have a main-planar-member, an aperture-for-housing-can, two mounting-ears, and a skirt. The main-planar-member may be at least mostly flat and planar, aside from some extensions. The aperture-for-housing-can may be a hole within the main-planar-member that may be configured to receive at least a portion of a housing-can. The housing-can is configured to house a light source. The two mounting-ears may extend orthogonally above the main-planar-member and may extend from opposing sides of the aperture-for-housing-can. The two mounting-ears may be configured for attaching to the housing-can. The skirt may extend from the main-planar-member, at the aperture-for-housing-can, in an opposite direction from the mounting-ears. The two mounting-ears may be formed from material of the main-planar-member such that the two mounting-ears and the main-planar-member are integral with each other being of the same article of manufacture.

Recessed lighting assembly and portions thereof

An integrated-lighting-module may have a heat sink module, a LED light chip, an optical reflector, and a holder/trim, and optionally a driver cap. The driver cap may be configured to hold a driver within the driver cap to power the LED light chip. The driver cap may attach to a top of the heat sink module. The heat sink module may be finned at various locations. The holder may attach to the heat sink module with the optical reflector and the LED light chip disposed between elements of the holder and elements of the heat sink module. Trim, such as MR16 sized trim, a lamp, and/or a lens holder, may attach to bottom flanges of the holder. The integrated-lighting-module may be adjusted without interfering with the trim. The holder may be trim in some embodiments.

A fire rated lighting housing (can) has: (a) a bottom that is open; (b) a top that is at least mostly closed or entirely closed; (c) a sidewall that runs from the bottom to the top; and (d) a fire-retarding material that is physically touching at least some portion of the sidewall when the sidewall is in a cool-state. The cool-state is when a temperature of the housing is at or below a predetermined normal operating temperature for the housing. This fire rated lighting housing, with the fire-retarding material, is configured to slow a fire from a lower floor reaching an above located adjacent floor with a minimum predetermined fire rating, which may be at least one (1) hour or more. Additionally, the top and the sidewall at least mostly enclose an internal-volume that is configured to directly house a light emitting element, like a LED (light emitting diode).

Fire rated housing for lighting

A light fixture is configured for mounting within a given housing-can. The light fixture may have a driver assembly, a heat-sink and a trim-casing assembly. The driver assembly may have a driver-printed-circuit-board, a lumen-switch, a color-temperature-switch, and a driver-box. The driver-printed-circuit-board, the lumen-switch, and the color-temperature-switch may be at least partially housed within the driver-box. With the lumen-switch a lumen output of the light fixture may be selected. With the color-temperature-switch a light color-temperature output of the light fixture may be selected. The trim-casing assembly may have a light-emitting-diode-circuit, a reflector, a lens, a can-attachment-means (e.g., a spring-clip), and a trim-casing-member. The light-emitting-diode-circuit, the reflector, and the lens may be housed within the trim-casing-member. The can-attachment-means may be attached to an exterior of the trim-casing-member and is for securing the light fixture to an inside of the housing-can. The heat-sink may be disposed between the driver assembly and the trim-casing-assembly.

A lighting-junction-box may have sidewalls that bound a cavity. The cavity may be configured to receive an electronic component that is configured to emit light. The sidewalls may be divided into an upper-portion and a lower-portion. The lower-portion may be substantially cylindrical in shape. The upper-portion may be substantially octagonal in shape, except that two of the eight faces may be curved, while the remaining six faces may be flat and planar. The two curved faces may be oppositely disposed from each other. The two curved faces may have holes for receiving carriage-bolts for attaching adjusting-plates to the lighting-junction-box. Below the holes of the two curved faces on the lower-portion may be external-length-gauges to assist with mounting the lighting-junction-box. The adjusting-plates may have slots for receiving the carriage-bolts and to allow for vertical adjustment of the lighting-junction-box with respect to the adjusting-plates.
