Methods of preparing a dry powder blend co-coagulating conductive carbon black particles and fibrillizable polytetrafluoroethylene particles from an aqueous dispersion and drying the co-coagulate are described. Dry powders prepared by such methods and electrodes prepared from such powders are also described.

Method for active battery management to optimize battery performance. The method includes providing signal injections for charging and discharging of a battery. The signal injections include various charging and discharging profiles, rates, and endpoints. Response signals corresponding with the signal injections are received, and a utility of those signals is measured. Based upon the utility of the response signals, data relating to charging and discharging of the battery is modified to optimize battery performance and to determine when to discharge the battery into a power grid in order to return power to the grid in exchange for an economic benefit such as a payment or rebate from a utility company.

Method of making a polymer matrix composite comprising a porous polymeric network structure; and a plurality of particles distributed within the polymeric network structure, the method comprising: combining a thermoplastic polymer, a solvent that the thermoplastic polymer is soluble in, and a plurality of particles to provide a slurry; forming the slurry in to an article; heating the article in an environment to retain at least 90 percent by weight of the solvent, based on the weight of the solvent in the slurry, and inducing phase separation of the thermoplastic polymer from the solvent to provide the polymer matrix composite.

A method may determine a remaining capacity of a cell that includes a lithium-alloying material in an electrode using a controller. The method includes receiving a temperature signal representing a temperature of a partially discharged cell and receiving a voltage signal representing a voltage of the partially discharged cell. The method further includes determining a time-dependent fade component and a cycle-dependent fade component of the cell. The time-dependent fade component of the cell is determined based on the temperature, the voltage, and an operating time of the cell. The cycle-dependent fade component of the cell is determined based on a depth of discharge of the partially discharged cell and cycle count data representing cycle-dependent fade from previous cycles of the cell. The method further includes determining a remaining capacity of the cell based on the time-dependent fade component, the cycle-dependent fade component, and a reference capacity of the cell.

The present disclosure relates to liquid solutions which include particulates that can function as an electrode, thereby forming an electrode solution, useful in the fabrication of liquid flow electrochemical cells and liquid flow batteries. The electrode solutions of the present disclosure may include an electrolyte comprising a liquid medium and at least one redox active specie, wherein the electrolyte has a density, De; and a core-shell particulate () having a core, a shell and a density Dp, wherein at least a portion of the shell of the core-shell particulate includes an electrically conductive first metal and wherein 0.8De&#x2264;Dp&#x2264;1.2De; and wherein a first redox active specie of the at least one redox active specie and the electrically conductive first metal are different elements. The present disclosure also provides electrochemical cells and liquid flow batteries comprising an electrode solution according to the present disclosure.

Electrode solutions and electrochemical cells and batteries therefrom

A sensor for detecting gaseous agents has a transducer, which includes an electrical resonant circuit that forms an antenna. The sensor further includes a sensing material that is disposed on at least a portion of the transducer. The sensing material is configured to simultaneously exhibit a capacitance response and a resistance response in the presence of a gaseous agent. The sensor may be reversible, battery free, and may require no electrical contact with a sensor reader.

Materials and sensors for detecting gaseous agents

A method of pulse charging a secondary electrochemical storage cell is provided. The secondary cell includes a negative electrode comprising an alkaline metal; a positive electrode comprising at least one transition metal halide; a molten salt electrolyte comprising alkaline metal haloaluminate; and a solid electrolyte partitioning the positive electrode from the negative electrode, such that a first surface of the solid electrolyte is in contact with the positive electrode, and a second surface of the solid electrolyte is in contact with the negative electrode. The method of charging includes polarizing the cell by applying a polarizing voltage greater than about 0.1 V above the cell's rest potential for a first predetermined period of time; depolarizing the cell for a second predetermined period of time; and repeating the polarizing and depolarizing steps until a charging end-point is reached.

Method of charging an electrochemical cell

An electrochemical cell is presented. The electrochemical cell includes an elongated ion-conducting separator defining at least a portion of a first compartment; a positive electrode composition disposed in the first compartment, the positive electrode composition comprising at least one electroactive metal, at least one alkali metal halide, and at least one electrolyte. A positive current collector is further disposed in the first compartment such that a portion of the positive current collector extends into the positive electrode composition, and a primary dimension of the extended portion of the positive current collector is less than about 20% of a primary dimension of the first compartment. A related method for the preparation of an electrochemical cell is also presented.
