A method includes receiving a message, determining at least one of a message importance level or a message delivery alert level based on one or more message characteristics associated with the message and generating metadata that indicates the at least one of the message importance level or the message delivery alert level with the message. The method further includes transmitting the message and the metadata toward a destination, receiving the message with the metadata, and providing notification and user interface indication corresponding to the at least one of the message importance level or the message delivery alert level or a storing of the message in an inbox folder corresponding to the at least one of the message importance level or the message delivery alert level.

Message management based on metadata

A system provides Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) to mobile stations through a wireless communication network for person-to-person traffic and traffic to/from an application. The network may include a plurality of Multimedia Messaging Service Centers (MMSCs) coupled to the wireless communication network for MMS communication between two mobile stations, and between a mobile station and an application during call origination mode operations. A second MMSC coupled to the wireless communication network, provides MMS communications between mobile stations and one or more applications during call termination mode operations. In a mobile origination mode operation, the second MMSC concentrates signaling from the first MMSCs and forwards received MMS data, and in a mobile termination mode operations, the second MMSC delivers MMS data to a destination mobile station without forwarding the MMS data to one of the first MMSCs.

Optimized MMS architecture for application-to-person and person-to-application messaging

A method may include receiving a multimedia messaging service (MMS) message from a sending device, the MMS message being addressed to a terminating device. A notification may be sent to the terminating device that the MMS message is available. A user agent profile may be received from the terminating device, the user agent profile including a network indicator to indicate the type of network currently servicing the terminating device. It may then be determined if transcoding of the MMS message is required based on the type of network indicated in the user agent profile and attributes of the MMS message.

Network-specific transcoding of MMS content

A message originates from a mobile station which is operable within a wireless network. In disclosed examples, the wireless network has a Messaging Service Center (MSC). The MSC determines whether the MSC stores a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) corresponding to a destination mobile directory number (MDN) that is inputted via the mobile station. Then, the MSC sends the message to the URI corresponding to the MDN if the first MSC stores the URI corresponding to the MDN. The MSC sends a request to find the URI corresponding to the destination MDN to an external tElephone NUmber Mapping (ENUM) server, if the first MSC does not store the URI corresponding to the destination MDN. The MSC sends the message to the URI corresponding to the destination MDN if the external ENUM server sends the URI corresponding to the destination MDN. The MSC also indicates charging policy for delivery of message based on a billing identification corresponding to the destination MDN or URI that is stored in the MSC in the same table.
