Method for receiving data packet transmissions, wherein synchronization with a transmitter is accomplished based on detection of a preamble transmitted by the transmitter. A time multiplexing scheduling of a single hardware receiver arrangement is used, and the time multiplexing scheduling has a main time slot comprising a first listen period and a second listen period following the first listen period. In the first listen period a first type of synchronization detection is executed (e.g. IEEE 802.15.4), and in the second listen period a second type of synchronization detection different from the first type of synchronization detection is executed (e.g. BLE).

Concurrent multi-radio receiver

A method for operating a wireless receiver includes receiving wireless signals from a transmitter at a first antenna and a second antenna. The wireless signals include a signal carrier and one or more data symbols modulated onto the signal carrier. The one or more data symbols in the wireless signal are decoded to determine a symbol phase contribution. The phase of the wireless signals at the first antenna and the second antenna during one or more symbol periods is estimated to provide a first set of phase measurements and a second set of phase measurements, respectively. The symbol phase contribution is removed from the first set of phase measurements and the second set of phase measurements to provide a first corrected set of phase measurements and a second corrected set of phase measurements, respectively, which are used to estimate an angle of arrival of the wireless signals.

Systems and methods for angle of arrival estimation

An ultra low power wireless node () sends () a packet on at least two radio channels to a network of backbone nodes (). Which of the radio channels are listened for at the backbone nodes is allocated () according to detected reception performance. The allocating is coordinated for different ones of the backbone nodes. By combining sending on multiple radio channels with dynamically allocating the listening channels according to reception performance and with coordinated allocations for different backbone nodes, the spatial diversity and channel diversity of the separate receiving locations can be exploited. This can make the system more resilient to time varying location specific interference or channel specific interference for example.

Radio channel allocation for wireless interface using ultra low power nodes

Multi-channel listening capable receiver capable of operating on one of K data channels and method of operating such a receiver. A local oscillator () is provided for tuning the receiver () to one of the channels within a channel switching time Ts, as well as a processing unit () arranged to detect a presence of a preamble on the tuned channel. The processing unit () is further arranged to switch over the local oscillator () to a next one of the data channels if no presence of a preamble is detected within a single preamble symbol duration Tp. The channel switching time is a fraction &#x3b2; of a single preamble symbol period Tp. The number of data channels K fulfills the condition K&#x3c;floor (N&#x2212;1&#x2212;(K*&#x3b2;)) to be able to receive all relevant data packets on the K channels, after being triggered by reception of the preamble.

Multi-channel receiver

A wireless system () comprises an initiator device () and a plurality of responder devices (-) which can bind with the initiator device (). The method comprises, at one of the plurality of responder devices, receiving () a discovery request from the initiator device and forming a discovery response and sending the discovery response to the initiator device. The step of forming a discovery response comprises: collecting () at least two parameters indicative of the initiator device wanting to bind with the responder device; computing () a score using the at least two parameters, the score being indicative of a likelihood of the initiator device wanting to bind with the responder device; and including () the score as an element of the discovery response.

Responder device binding in a wireless system

A method of communication or transmission of data between a first and a second node in a wireless multi-hop network comprises bringing the first node and the second node in a fully operative mode for communication with each other and subsequently bringing the first node and the second node in a reduced operative mode where no communication with any other node is possible and, before bringing the second node in the fully operative mode, bringing the second node in a listening mode during a token listening period to check for presence of a wake-up token from the first node, and thereafter bringing the second node into the reduced operative mode if no wake-up token is received, and bringing the second node into the fully operative mode for reception of data from the first node if a wake-up token is received. This wake-up scheme is a kind of scheduled rendezvous scheme with collision avoidance, and may be called an induced wake-up scheme. It is advantageous because of its low power consumption (nodes only wake up completely when a message is present for them to receive) and because of the low latency in data transfer. The wake-up tokens used enable random access to other nodes, nevertheless having a system which is low-power in operation.
