The method includes: detecting an environment of the vehicle and/or a state of the environment with the aid of at least one environment sensor, the environment sensor generating a first sensor signal which represents the detected partial region of the environment and/or the detected state of the environment; detecting a movement variable of the vehicle with the aid of at least one movement sensor, the movement sensor generating a second sensor signal which represents the detected movement variable; and ascertaining the safety level of the setpoint function of the vehicle as a function of the generated first sensor signal and the generated second sensor signal with the aid of a safety system.
