An assembly for an electrified vehicle having a housing containing a transmission, and a vehicle component positioned in a longitudinal direction between the housing and a passenger compartment, includes a deflector configured for mounting to the housing and having a deflection face configured to deflect the vehicle component and/or the housing away from the passenger compartment during a frontal collision.

A chassis-subframe is attached to a vehicle body and is connected via a plurality of fasteners to high load-bearing body parts. The chassis subframe is connected to the load-bearing body parts by the fasteners indirectly via a sacrificial plate. From a specific relative force acting substantially in the vehicle longitudinal direction between the chassis subframe and the sacrificial plate, the fasteners are pulled out of said sacrificial plate, immediately in the case of a displacement movement of the chassis subframe occurring to the rear, viewed in the vehicle longitudinal direction. The fasteners are arranged by the sacrificial plate relative to the load-bearing body parts such that, after being pulled out, the fasteners are able to move freely to the rear in the vehicle longitudinal direction, without interacting with the, or another of the, load-bearing body parts.

A motor vehicle having an instrument panel that is spaced rearward away from a bottom end of a windscreen so that it is less likely to be damaged in the event of a frontal impact. A cover is attached to vehicle body structure adjacent to the bottom end of the windscreen to cover the gap produced by spacing the instrument panel from the bottom of the windscreen. The cover overlies an upper surface of the instrument panel and slides rearward over the upper surface when the bottom end of the windscreen moves rearward into the crush space during a collision.

A crash structure for a vehicle includes a crash can having a plurality of indents and a support rail aligned longitudinally with the crash can. The support rail has an inboard surface region having a further indent to facilitate inward deformation of the crash structure, and an opposite surface region having a continuous surface opposite the further indent. A method of manufacturing a crash structure is also provided.

A motor vehicle body structure includes a frame rail and a bracket attached to the rail and adapted for attaching an engine mount. The bracket has a first portion secured to the frame rail beneath the engine mount and at least one cantilever portion projecting at one end beyond the first portion. The cantilever portion defines an anchoring point for attachment of the engine mount that is spaced from the frame rail so that the portion of the frame rail beneath the anchoring point may undergo controlled deformation in the event of a front end vehicle collision.

An engine hood for motor vehicles possesses a deformable head impact zone for the protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision with the motor vehicle. The engine hood is composed of two or more load-bearing shells and has a flexural strength profile which is low adjacent the edges and increases continuously toward the middle of the hood. At the same time, the engine hood has a uniform mass distribution ovcr the entire surface. Consequently, irrespective of the position the engine hood, the same characteristic for the head impact is achieved everywhere. The advantageous embodiment of the engine hood provides a reinforcing panel with regularly arranged beads, at most three beads forming a junction point so as to reduce local rigidities.

A pedestrian safety device for mounting to an automotive vehicle has a relatively low-resistance mechanical response when struck by an object having the approximate width of a human leg, and relatively high-resistance response when struck by an object wider than a human leg. The impact energy management device comprises a backplate attachable the vehicle and a plurality of seesaw elements attached to the backplate for pivoting movement relative to the backplate. Each element has a first and a second contact end spaced forwardly from the beam. When a narrow object like a pedestrian's leg strikes the device, only one end of each seesaw element is urged toward the backplate and the element pivots with respect to the backplate to absorb energy and offer a relatively low resistance. When a wider object strikes the device, both contact ends of a seesaw element are engaged so that the element bends toward the backplate. The strain caused by the bending offering a higher resistance to intrusion by the object.
