The present disclosure relates to fiber optic adapters that are convertible between different configurations corresponding to different polarity schemes. The present disclosure also relates to fiber optic adapters having internal shutters integrated within end caps.

Fiber optic adapters convertible between different polarity types

A multi-fiber fiber optic connector is provided having features that allow for changeability with respect to gender. A pin retention structure is configured to retain a pair of alignment pins and includes a pin-holder body with a pair of pin openings and a U-shaped spring clip. The spring clip including a base portion and two opposing legs, and is movable between a pin retaining position and a pin release position. When the spring clip is in the pin retaining position, the two opposing legs engage with outer sides of each of the alignment pins, and when the spring clip is in the pin release position, the base portion flexes inwardly and the two opposing legs disengage with the outer sides of each of the alignment pins.

Gender changeable multi-fiber fiber optic connector

A light source unit generates an optical signal out of a bend-insensitive ('BI') optical fiber that is compliant with a desired encircled flux (“EF”). The unit includes a light source to generate an optical light signal and a conventional multimode optical fiber coupled to receive the optical light signal from the light source at a first end. A modal conditioner is arranged to condition the optical light signal propagating along different modes of the conventional multimode fiber. A first bend-insensitive (BI) multimode optical fiber has an input end, the input end of the first BI multimode optical fiber being coupled at a second end of the conventional multimode optical fiber to receive the conditioned optical light signal from the conventional multimode fiber. The output from the first BI multimode optical fiber outputs an optical signal having the desired EF.

Modal conditioner for use with bend-insensitive, multimode optical fibers

A light source unit generates an optical signal out of a bend-insensitive ('BI') optical fiber that is compliant with a desired encircled flux ('EF'). The unit includes a light source to generate an optical light signal and a conventional multimode optical fiber coupled to receive the optical light signal from the light source at a first end. A modal conditioner is arranged to condition the optical light signal propagating along different modes of the conventional multimode fiber. A first bend-insensitive (BI) multimode optical fiber has an input end, the input end of the first BI multimode optical fiber being coupled at a second end of the conventional multimode optical fiber to receive the conditioned optical light signal from the conventional multimode fiber. The output from the first BI multimode optical fiber outputs an optical signal having the desired EF.

Various fiber optic distribution modules are disclosed, as well as cable useable to interconnect such modules. One possible module includes a first MPO connector and a second MPO connector exposed, and a plurality of LC connectors, the plurality of LC connectors arranged into a first row and a second row. A plurality of fibers is routed between one of the first and second MPO connectors and a different one of the plurality of LC connectors. The plurality of LC connectors in the first row and the second row are grouped into N groups with M connectors in each group corresponding to M/2 channels included in each group and including a fiber pair. The M connectors of each group are disposed across the first and second rows. Indicia disposed on the second side of the housing visually distinguish each group of the N groups from an adjacent neighboring group.

Optical fiber connectivity system including modules and interconnection cables

A method and system connects multiple cores within one fiber, e.g., a multi-core fiber (MCF), to multiple fibers with single-cores. The single-core fibers can then be terminated by traditional envelopes, such as a single core LC envelope. A connector holds the single-core fibers into a pattern that matches a pattern of all, or a sub group, of the individual cores of the MCF. The single-core fibers may all be terminated to individual connectors to form a fanout or breakout cable. Alternatively, the single-core fibers may extend to another connector wherein the single-core fibers are regrouped into a pattern to mate with the cores of another MCF, hence forming a jumper. One or more of the single core fibers may be terminated along the length of the jumper to form a jumper with one or more tap accesses.

An optical fiber module includes a plate having a first side, a second side and at least one through opening, a plurality of connection elements at the first side, and a mounting block at the second side that is configured to secure, relative to the plate, at least one second fiber optic connector which has a longitudinal axis, an end, a wide portion and an end portion between the wide portion and the end. The mounting block includes a channel having an enlarged portion configured to receive the wide portion of the at least one second fiber optic connector, and the channel is configured to permit the insertion of the at least one second fiber optic connector in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis while preventing the removal of the at least one second fiber optic connector in any direction parallel to the longitudinal axis.

A mechanical splice fiber optic connector installation tool operable for performing splice terminations and verifying an acceptable splice termination includes a power source, a connector holder, an integrated Visual Fault Locater having an optical transmission element and a display for displaying the status of the termination. An adapter configured to receive the connector and align the connector with the optical transmission element, such that the optical transmission element is spaced apart from the connector at a predetermined distance and is in optical communication with the connector for propagating light energy through the adapter and along the stub optical fiber to a termination area of the connector.

Fiber adapter modules for use as interfaces at both ends of multi-fiber trunk cables position the channels of plural fiber optic transceivers onto fibers of the trunk cables in an efficient manner, such that normally dark fibers of a trunk cables are utilized. The fiber adapter modules include trunk-side ports for receiving adapters of multi-fiber trunk cables and transceiver-side ports for receiving adapters carrying both transmit channels and receive channels of fiber optic transceivers. Optical interconnections are provided within the fiber adapter modules to place at least one transmit channel or at least one receive channel of a first fiber optic transceiver at a first trunk-side port and to place at least one transmit channel or at least one receive channel of a second fiber optic transceiver at the first trunk-side port.

Quad small form factor pluggable (QSFP) adapter module

A blocking member is sized and shaped to be installed beneath a trigger or triggers of a duplex connector. The blocking member prevents depression of the trigger(s) of the duplex connector and hence prevents depression of latches to release the plugs of the duplex connector from mated receptacles. The blocking member does not block actuation of the latches of the duplex connector. Through the use of a tool, the trigger(s) may be bypassed and the latches operated directly by the tool to release the plugs of the duplex connector when mated to receptacles.

Locking optical and/or electrical connectors and cable assemblies

Apparatus and methods for verifying an acceptable splice termination include propagating light energy into the stub optical fiber of a fiber optic connector, detecting and collecting the amount of optical power emanating from the stub optical fiber at a termination area of the connector, converting the optical power to an electrical signal proportional to the amount of collected optical power, and displaying the electrical signal on a feedback monitor, such as an optical power meter, an LCD bar graph, or an LED. An initial (i.e., reference) value is obtained with the field optical fiber not in physical contact with the stub optical fiber. A final (i.e., terminated) value is obtained with the field optical fiber in physical contact with the stub optical fiber and terminated to the connector. The final value is compared to the initial value to determine whether the change (i.e., difference) is sufficient. Alternatively, the final value is compared to a predetermined limit or threshold.

Apparatus and methods for verifying an acceptable splice termination

A multi-channel fiber optic connector includes a first connector housing and a mating second connector housing. The first connector housing includes a plurality of abutting first termini and a first guidance feature amongst the plurality of abutting first termini to form a first grouping. A circular containment sleeve surrounds the first grouping. The second connector housing includes a plurality of abutting second termini and a second guidance feature amongst the plurality of abutting second termini to form a second grouping. When the first and second connector housings are mated, the first guidance feature cooperates with the second guidance feature, and the plurality of abutting second termini enter into the containment sleeve to assume an end-to-end alignment with the plurality of abutting first termini. The termini may be formed as ceramic ferrules and the guidance features may be formed as an extending pin amongst one of the plurality of termini for filing a void space amongst the other plurality of termini.
