An adaptive automatic transmission control system responds to stopping of a vehicle for reducing torque absorption by an automatic transmission and movement of and range to obstructions forward from a vehicle for reengaging the automatic transmission after a stop. The torque converter is released from its reduced torque absorption mode under one of three circumstances: 1) the brake pedal is released; 2) the detected obstruction moves outside a first predefined maximum range; and, 3) the detected obstruction moves outside a second predefined maximum range and at greater than a predefined minimum speed.

Adaptive automatic transmission control system

An ABS tone ring is made of a thermo-set plastic material transparent to electro-magnetic radiation. A plurality of discrete, spaced magnets or ferro-magnetic buttons is arrayed in a circle, embedded in the tone ring. The thermo-set plastic is heat tolerant and resistant to road salt and oxidation and protects the magnets or buttons from oxidation and corrosion.

Tone ring for an anti-lock brake system

An exciter ring/disc brake rotor assembly allows snap in fitting of the exciter ring onto the disc brake rotor. Either of two snap fit mechanisms limits clocking of the ring in use.

Snap in ABS exciter ring

A method and system for estimating weight of a trailer () being towed by a tractor () along a generally horizontal underlying surface. A portion of the trailer weight is borne on the tractor fifth wheel () and the remainder by rear wheels () rolling on the underlying surface. The tractor accelerates the trailer from an initial velocity to a final velocity over a time interval that is measured by a timer. The force that the tractor needed to exert on the trailer in order to change the velocity is also measured. Various data, including that force, are processed according to an algorithm to calculate the weight of the trailer by itself. Other data processed includes data (N) representing the portion of the weight of the trailer borne through the tractor, data representing the change in velocity of propulsion (&#x25a1;v), data representing length of the interval of time (t), and data (&#x3bc;) representing coefficient of friction of the wheels () with the underlying surface.
