A connect and disconnect assembly for connecting and disconnecting a laser diode having leads to a printed circuit board (PCB). The assembly includes a heatsink having a base plate portion and fins extending from and integral with the base plate portion. The heatsink further includes spacer sleeves extending from a side of the base plate portion opposing the fins. The heatsink connects to the printed circuit board by providing mount screws through the heatsink and spacer sleeves which are received in mount holes formed in the PCB. The laser diode connects to the base plate portion of the heatsink. Laser support blocks connect with the heatsink and support opposing sides of the laser diode. Each laser support block is provided with a dielectric gasket. When the heatsink is mounted onto the PCB, the laser diode leads are forced against corresponding pads provided on the PCB for electrically connecting the laser diode to the PCB. The dielectric gaskets provide pressure on the laser diode leads so that they adequately contact their corresponding pads on the PCB, and electrically isolate and insulate the leads to prevent lead frequencies from intermixing. The assembly provides a convenient mechanism for connecting/disconnecting the laser diode and heatsink to/from the PCB. Further, the laser diode and assembly can be easily disconnected from the PCB so that a modified, repaired, and/or updated laser diode or other component can be quickly and easily inserted into the circuit without damaging or destroying the laser diode or the PCB.

Laser diode and heatsink quick connect/disconnect assembly

A fiber optic cable stripping and measuring apparatus that includes a mounting base having a template clamp connected thereto, the template clamp securing an optical component connected to the fiber optic cable. The apparatus further includes a fiber clamp connected to mounting base for securing a first portion of the fiber optic cable. A pair of fiber take up mandrels are provided adjacent to the fiber clamp for winding excess fiber optic cable, if excess cable is desired. The apparatus also includes a fiber stripper, spaced from take up mandrels, for scoring a buffer layer of the fiber optic cable. The fiber stripper enables the buffer layer of a portion of the fiber optic cable to be removed to expose optical fiber within the fiber optic cable. The apparatus further includes a cylindrical marking mandrel spaced from the fiber stripper and having a circumference that exceeds the minimum bend radius of the fiber optic cable. The cylindrical marking mandrel has a marking groove formed on its periphery so that the exposed optical fiber of the fiber optic cable may be marked at predetermined locations.

Fiber optic cable stripping and measurement apparatus

An apparatus for managing and measuring fiber optic cable includes a mounting base for receiving and retaining a variety of fiber cassettes capable of holding optical components having fiber optic cables emanating therefrom. The apparatus includes a pair of interchangeable marking mandrels spaced from the fiber cassette and having circumferences that exceed the minimum bend radius of the fiber optic cables. Each marking mandrel has marking grooves formed on its periphery so that the fiber optic cable may be marked at a predetermined location for future splicing of the cable. The apparatus further includes fiber take up mandrels connected to the mounting base, each fiber take up mandrel having a circumference that exceeds the minimum bend radius of the fiber optic cables. The marked fiber optic cables may be temporarily wound around the circumference of the fiber take up mandrels to prevent entanglement and keep the fiber out of the operator's way while another cable is being marked. The apparatus also includes a pair of fiber retainer rails interposed between the fiber cassette and the fiber take up mandrels for guiding the fiber optic cable from the fiber cassette to the fiber take up mandrels. Each of the fiber retainer rails has a resilient rail portion that protects the fiber optic cables from damage.

Fiber optic cables management and measurement apparatus

A universal support frame that holds a printed (PCB) so that both sides are accessible for processing and testing, and which provides an attachment mechanism for holding a mechanism to cool the PCB as it is being processed or tested. The universal support frame includes a base, and a first board support pivotally connected to the base. A pair of support angles are connected at their first ends to the first board support, and are connected at their second ends to a second board support. A variety of PCBs are capable of being held between the first and second board supports since the second board support is adjustable. Furthermore, both sides of a PCB may be accessed since the first board support may be rotated relative to the base. The second board support connects to a bracket for holding a cooling mechanism, such as a fan, that cools the PCB and prevents it from overheating. The fan speed maybe controlled to match the thermal profile of the PCB being tested, and prevent undercooling and overcooling of the PCB.

Universal support frame

A fiber optic cable winding assist tool for securing, routing, and storing fiber optic cables in optical communications systems that quickly and simultaneously lifts the retainer fingers of a mandrel, without breaking them, and releases the retainer fingers once the fiber optic cables are safely within the retainer fingers. The winding assist tool is used with a base having at least one mandrel connected thereto, and may have a spacer disk connected to the mandrel. A spider frame is provided on the spacer disk or mandrel and includes a body portion and arm portions extending from the spider frame body portion. Each arm portion engages a corresponding retainer finger of the mandrel. A thumb screw having a head portion and a threaded portion mates with a threaded opening provided through the spider frame body portion and engages a top surface of the spacer disk. An operator need only rotate the thumb screw, and the threaded portion forces the spider frame upwards, which in turn simultaneously lifts the retainer fingers. With the retainer fingers in a raised position, the operator may wind a fiber optic cable around the mandrel. Once the operator ensures that the fiber optic cable is safely within the retainer fingers, the operator may rotate the thumb screw in an opposite direction, and the threaded portion lowers the spider frame, which in turn, simultaneously lowers the retainer fingers. This prevents the fiber optic cable from being pinched and potentially damaged by a retainer finger.
