A method and system for propelling and controlling displacement of a microrobot in a space having a wall, includes the steps of: forming the microrobot with a body containing a magnetic field-of-force responsive material, wherein, in response to a magnetic field of force, a force is applied to the material in a direction of the magnetic field of force; positioning the microrobot in the space for displacement in that space; and generating the magnetic field of force with a predetermined gradient and applying the magnetic field of force to the microrobot propelling the microrobot through the space in a direction of a field of force. Then, a sequence of field generating steps are executed, wherein each step includes calculating the direction, amplitude and spatial variation of the net field of force to control displacement of the microrobot in the space and against the wall from one equilibrium point to another.

A magnetic manipulation and navigation system for moving a magnetic element through a body comprising at least six electromagnets with soft-magnetic cores arranged in a predetermined position to the body. One or more of the electromagnets operate in the non-linear regime of the magnetization curve of the cores. At least one magnetic field sensor is at one or more predetermined positions outside of the operating region. In the linear region, no feedback is required to set the magnetic field strength. In the non-linear region, feedback from the magnetic field sensors is used for closed-loop control. The system has an open loop mode operation in the linear regime for fast control signals, for stabilization during displacement of the magnetic element, and a closed-loop operation in the non-linear regime for higher field strengths, to apply forces and moments on the magnetic element while it is in contact with a surface.

Magnetic navigation system with soft magnetic core electromagnets for operation in the non-linear regime

A magnetic manipulation and navigation system for moving a magnetic element through a body comprising at least six electromagnets fixed in relation to said body and a control unit supplying the current for the electromagnets. The electromagnets have soft magnetic cores and the current supplied by the control unit to each of the electromagnets is adapted to operate the electromagnetic coils of each of the electromagnets in their core's linear regions being delimited by the value of the flux density of each electromagnet being in an interval between the negative and positive saturation value of each electromagnet, the lower representation showing the deviation due to the use of soft magnetic cores in all electromagnets.

A wireless resonant micro-actuator for untethered micro-robots. The wireless resonant micro-actuator includes at least two magnetic bodies that are resiliently connected to one another by a resilient member to form a spring-mass system. A magnetic field generator generates a pulsating or oscillating external magnetic field that creates a magnetic force between the at least two magnetic bodies. The at least two magnetic bodies are capable of being mechanically oscillated to resonance with respect to one another. A converter converts the oscillatory motion of the at least two magnetic bodies to create useful motion.

Wireless resonant magnetic acutation for untethered microrobots

A capacitive transducer a first part containing a first set of capacitor plates and a second part relatively movable in a plane to the first part. The second part contains a second set of capacitor plates. Both sets of capacitor plates are built on a substrate, wherein the capacitor plates form a plurality of capacitors. The second part is relatively movable in all six degrees of freedom. One set of the plurality of capacitors measures displacements in a plane and a second set of the plurality capacitors measures displacements perpendicular to the plane.
