A circuit is provided that includes a parasitic power circuit that powers a parasitic circuit. The parasitic power circuit derives a supply voltage from an external AC or other signal suitable for use as a communications signal. A PMOS transistor or transistors is utilized to enable a supply voltage capacitor to charge substantially to the same voltage as the channel voltage of the communications signal.

Active parasite power circuit

An electronic module having at least a microprocessor and co-processor on a single integrated circuit. The electronic module can be contained in a small housing. The electronic module provides secure bidirectional data communication via a data bus. The electronic module may include an integrated circuit comprising a microprocessor, and a co-processor adapted to handle 1,024-bit modulo mathematics primarily aimed at RSA calculations. The electronic module is preferably contained in a small token sized metallic container and will preferably communicate via a single wire data bus which uses a one-wire protocol.

An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit including a first isolation structure on a first path, a second isolation structure on a second path, and a discharging element such as a Harrington diode structure connected to the first and second isolation structures. The isolation structures may comprise resistive elements. The ESD protection circuit is adaptable for use with microcircuits positioned in portable data carriers.

Electrostatic discharge protection circuits and application

A secure electronic data module containing a monolithic semiconductor chip of the type having a memory that is protected by a combination of hardware and software mechanisms such that unauthorized access to the data stored in the memory is prevented. The monolithic semiconductor chip comprises a plurality of solder bumps for attaching the chip to a substrate that may be a printed circuit board or another chip; a multi-level interlaced power and ground lines using minimum geometries; and a detection circuit block for detecting an external trip signal that may be produced by a pre-specified change in an operating condition brought on by unauthorized accessing, or an internal trip signal that may be produced by shorting of power and ground lines or by a change in an oscillator's frequency, also associated with or appurtenant to unauthorized accessing of the secure memory.

Microcircuit with memory that is protected by both hardware and software

An apparatus includes a circuit positioned in a housing, which circuit includes an input/output module having a parasitic power sub-module. The circuit further includes a scratchpad memory, coupled to the input/output module; a programmable memory, coupled to the scratchpad memory; and a control module, coupled to the input/output module, the scratchpad memory and the programmable memory. In certain variations, the input/output module further includes at least one of a one-wire bus and a three-wire bus in addition to a bus arbitrator.

Secure module with microprocessor and co-processor

A circuit positioned in a substantially token-shaped body, the circuit that comprises (a) a serial port to receive and transmit information following a write signal, a read signal, and a program signal; (b) a scratchpad memory coupled to the serial port to hold information that is received or transmitted; (c) an electrically programmable memory coupled to the scratchpad memory; (d) program port to receive program information and program the electrically programmable memory, said program port deriving all voltages necessary to program said electrically programmable memory from said program signal; and (e) control logic coupled to the serial port and the scratchpad memory and the electrically programmable memory, the control logic transfers information to and from the scratchpad memory to the electrically programmable memory as a block pursuant to a block transfer command received at the serial port. The memory subsections comprise a block of memory that can redirects data requests to other locations in the memory subsections and can be write protected by protecting information found in the block and/or by preventing the block from being redirected.

Portable electronic module having EPROM memory, systems and processes

A timekeeping integrated circuit with devices partitioned into areas with different power supplies and level translators between the areas; the level translators use a memory cell for isolation and to shorten the signal active time for low power consumption. Also a one-wire communication port with low power input buffers may be used to detect very slowly varying voltages. The input buffers include staged decreasing resistors as a power dissipation limitation.

Low power module

A power-on reset circuit, which includes a fully symmetrical flip-flop in the path of propagation of the reset pulse. The two outputs of the flip-flop are combined together, so that propagation of the pulse can occur as soon as the flip-flop has stabilized in either of its possible stable states. However, a feedback connection cuts off any further propagation through this path once a power-on reset pulse has been issued. Thus, this circuit is extremely stable, and will not issue further power-on reset pulses even if hit with a very severe power glitch.
