A system and method for tracking activity of a plurality of machines can comprise identifying at least one work segment of a smart machine based on sensor data from one or more sensors of the smart machine; and identifying at least one work segment of each of a plurality of non-smart machines based on the identified at least one work segment of the smart machine and location data transmitted from the non-smart machine. The identified at least one work segment of the smart machine can be identified in association a first location at a worksite. The at least one work segment of each of the non-smart machines can be identified when the non-smart machine is within a predetermined distance of the first location associated with the identified at least one work segment of the smart machine.

A cycle controller associated with the sensor, the cycle controller disposed to receive the signal and operating to monitor the signal. The cycle controller is programmed and operates to analyze the signal to determine at least a presence and a duration of a change in acceleration of the work implement of the machine with respect to time, compile an actual time trace of the change in acceleration of the work implement, compare the actual time trace with a predefined time trace that represents a work cycle segment, and catalog presence and duration of a work cycle segment when the actual time trace is consistent with the predefined time trace.

A system for controlling an operation of a machine is disclosed. The system includes an image capturing device and a controller. The image capturing device generates a signal indicative of a surrounding area of the machine. The controller is in communication with the image capturing device. The controller determines a preceding work cycle of the machine comprising a dig segment and determines a preceding segment associated with the preceding work cycle to be a dump segment. The controller further identifies a work aggregate within the surrounding area of the machine, when the preceding segment of the preceding work cycle is the dump segment. Further, the controller determines a distance between an implement of the machine and the work aggregate and issues a shift request to downshift a gear drive of a transmission system of the machine, if the distance is less than a predefined distance.

A controller stores a first threshold for the first quantitatively measurable task, stores a second threshold for the second quantitatively measurable task, determines the first operating characteristic of a first linkage member, compares the first operating characteristic to the first threshold, and generates and displays a first rating for the first quantitatively measurable task. A hydraulic system for a machine is provided including a first cylinder, a pump and an operator input device for entering a commanded rate of flow of hydraulic fluid to the first cylinder. A control valve operatively is connected between the pump and the first cylinder. A sensor is configured and arranged to provide signals relating to a first operating characteristic of the machine. A controller is in communication with the operator input device, the control valve and the sensor. The controller is configured to determine a skill level of an operator of the machine based on a comparison of the first operating characteristic of the machine and a first threshold and to direct the control valve to provide hydraulic fluid to the first cylinder at an adjusted hydraulic fluid flow rate if the skill level of the operator is below a predetermined level.

The system includes a plurality of sensors configured to generate signals indicative of a parameter associated with an operation of the machine. The system also includes a display unit. The system further includes a controller communicably coupled to the plurality of sensors and the display unit. The controller is configured to receive the signals indicative of the parameter associated with the operation of the machine. The controller then determines an operation mode of the machine based on the received signals and identifies the identification code based on the determined operation mode. The controller further displays the identification code based on the determined operation mode on the display unit.

Methods and systems are disclosed for evaluating performances of a piece of equipment and equipment operator. One disclosed method includes sensing a plurality of operating parameters of the equipment. The method then includes resolving a plurality of segments the equipment is sequentially performing from the sensed operating parameters to provide a sequence of resolved segments. The method then includes resolving what application the equipment is performing based upon the sequence of resolved segments to provide at least one resolved application. The method then includes applying at least one metric to the resolved application to provide at least one applied application metric. Then, the method includes evaluating the performance of the equipment and operator using the applied application metric. Various systems for installation on existing work equipments or new work equipments such as loaders and excavators are also disclosed.
