Power management apparatuses and systems utilizing synchronous common coupling. A power management apparatus may include a plurality of ports and a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through a synchronous common coupling. Each electrically isolated stack may include a plurality of cascaded stages and may be connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports. The synchronous common coupling connects only power between each of the plurality of electrically isolated stacks and is configured to maintain electrical isolation for each of the plurality of stages in the plurality of electrically isolated stacks.

Power management utilizing synchronous common coupling

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for managing power utilizing synchronous common coupling. An apparatus comprises a synchronous common coupling, a plurality of ports, and a plurality of stacks connected through the synchronous common coupling. Each stack comprises at least one stage, with each stage comprising at least one source/load bridge, at least one flux bridge, and a DC bus. The at least one source/load bridge of one stage of each stack is connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports, the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to an electrically isolated winding in the synchronous common coupling, and the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to the at least one source/load bridge of the stage through the DC bus. The synchronous common coupling is configured to exchange power between each of the plurality of stacks.

The present disclosure relates to power management systems utilizing a high-frequency low voltage pre-charge. A power management system may comprise a low voltage power source, a power supply assembly connected to the low voltage power source, and a power module comprising a plurality of arrays. Each array may comprise a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through a synchronous common coupling. Each electrically isolated stack may comprise a plurality of stages, a multi-winding secondary, a pre-charge circuit connected to at least one of the plurality of stages, and a plurality of multi-winding isolated power supplies. Each multi-winding isolated power supply may be connected to one of the plurality of stages. The power supply assembly may be configured to supply charging current from the low voltage power source to at least one of the plurality of electrically isolated stacks.

Power management utilizing a high-frequency low voltage pre-charge and synchronous common coupling

The present disclosure relates to power management apparatuses and systems utilizing synchronous common coupling. A power management apparatus may include a synchronous common coupling, a plurality of ports, and a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through the synchronous common coupling. Each electrically isolated stack may include at least one stage, each stage including a source/load bridge, a flux bridge, and a direct current (DC) bus. The source/load bridge may be connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports, the flux bridge may be connected to an electrically isolated winding in the synchronous common coupling, and the flux bridge may be connected to the source/load bridge through the DC bus.

A directional fault sectionalizing system that utilizes one phase voltage measurement and three phase current measurements to determine the directionality of high impedance faults on a three phase electric power circuit. This eliminates the need for two of the three voltage measuring devices at each monitoring station conventionally required to determine fault directionality, which makes it economical to install at a greater number of distribution tap points. The system is particularly useful for commonly used three-way tap points along distribution lines where three phase voltage measurement is not readily available. The system is capable of identifying faults under challenging circumstances, such faults occurring on unbalanced three phase power lines and faults occurring on tapped line segments where the currents are relatively small compared to the currents flowing in the main line segments.

Directional fault sectionalizing system

A communication and control system for a high voltage power line using an energy harvesting power supply to avoid batteries in the communication components maintained at line voltage. The energy harvesting power supply utilizes scavenged backscatter power received from a transceiver maintained at ground potential or a power supply with a super-saturating magnetic flux core, such as a mu-metal core, to harvest electromagnetic field energy from the power line. The communication equipment maintained at line voltage communicates information to the transceiver maintained at ground potential by modulating backscatter energy reflected from the beam transmitted by the ground level transceiver to minimize the power requirement of the communication equipment maintained at line voltage. Response equipment includes capacitors, voltage regulator, voltage sag supporter, circuit interrupter, remote communication equipment, reporting and analysis system.

High voltage power line communication system using an energy harvesting power supply

A limited flash-over electric power switch uses a dielectric gas regulator and a flash-over arrestor to greatly diminish the occurrences of high voltage flash-over during operation of a circuit interrupter. The dielectric gas regulator prevents the flow of the dielectric gas into the arc gap during an initial portion of the opening stroke of the interrupter contacts. Once the arc gap is sufficiently wide to greatly diminish the likelihood of a high voltage flash-over, the dielectric gas regulator allows the dielectric gas to flow into the arc gap to extinguish the arc. The flash-over arrestor snubs out incipient flash-over that may occur as the arc attempts to reform across the arc gap. The flash-over arrestor may be a conductive ring located on the interior surface of the nozzle in the region of the orifice.

Limited flash-over electric power switch

An electric power switch suitable for use as a capacitor switch that includes a drive unit having a bi-directional toggle mechanism and linearly opposing opening and closing spring latches. The opening and closing spring latches are located on opposing sides of the toggle mechanism, which includes an open-cage spring mechanism with coaxial, nested opening and closing springs operated by a rotating, motor-driven charging cam. To open the circuit interrupter, the opening spring latch is tripped to release the opening spring and thereby remove the capacitor bank from the electric power circuit. To introduce the capacitor bank into the electric power circuit, the motor rotates the charging cam through one complete rotation, which charges the opening and closing springs and trips the closing spring latch to release the closing spring to close the circuit interrupter and thereby introduce the capacitor bank into the electric power circuit.
