A refrigerant hose has an innermost tube defining a lumen therein, and the innermost tube is based on one of a hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR), an HNBR containing polymer blend, or a copolymer thereof, which is cured with a phenol-formaldehyde resin. The refrigerant hose may further include an optional permeation inhibiting layer which surrounds the innermost tube when incorporated, a reinforcing layer disposed outwardly from the innermost tube and the optional permeation inhibiting layer when this layer is used, and a cover layer disposed outwardly from the reinforcing layer. The innermost tube has a volume swell percentage of 10% or less when exposed to polyolester oil or polyalkylene glycol oil for 168 hrs @ 125&#xb0; C. Additionally, the innermost tube is devoid of peroxide and may further be devoid added elemental sulfur, sulfur donors and/or additives containing sulfur within their molecular structures.

Vehicle air conditioning hose inner layer

An arrangement includes an extruder crosshead, and an innermost rubber tube having an input portion a resident portion residing in the extruder crosshead, and an output portion. The arrangement further includes an ozone stream evolved from an ozone source, where the ozone stream is introduced into an ozone cavity of the extruder crosshead, and a continuous molten barrier forming material which is movable through a flow cavity in the extruder crosshead. A portion of the continuous molten barrier forming material which is emitted from the extruder crosshead is exposed to the ozone stream on an inner side of the portion to provide a heterogeneous surfaced barrier layer. The arrangement also includes a barrier coated rubber tube including the heterogeneous surfaced barrier layer and the output portion of the innermost rubber tube, where the heterogeneous surfaced barrier layer is disposed outward from the output portion of the innermost rubber tube.

Increased rubber-to-nylon adhesion by ozone treatment

Refrigerant hoses include a permeation inhibiting layer, wherein the permeation inhibiting layer is formed of mixture based upon a polyether-ester block copolymer, a polyamide-polyether block copolymer, or a blend thereof. A tie layer surrounds the permeation inhibiting layer, and the tie layer is based on a butyl rubber. A reinforcing layer surrounds the tie layer, and a cover layer is disposed adjacent the reinforcing layer. In some cases, an innermost rubber tube is disposed inwardly adjacent the permeation inhibiting layer, and the innermost rubber tube is comprised of rubbery polymer. The refrigerant hoses may further include a second tie layer surrounding the reinforcing layer, and a second spiral reinforcing layer disposed between the cover layer and the second tie layer. Furthermore, the hoses may have a permeation rate of not greater than 0.0020 g/cm/day of R-1234yf refrigerant.

Flexible air conditioning barrier or veneer suction hose

A hose including at least one permeation resistant layer, an elastomeric layer overlaying each at least one permeation resisting layer, at least one reinforcement layer overlaying an elastomeric layer, and a cover layer overlaying the at least one reinforcement layer, wherein the at least one permeation resistant layer includes a plurality of sublayers of at least two different thermoplastics wherein the sublayers have a thickness of less than 2500 nanometers.
