The present invention is a modular system for mounting lighting and signage. Mount components are attached to gutters by engaging the securing protuberance of the mount component with the gutter which creates tension between the gutter and the mount component. Rail components are assembled to the desired length using connector components and lights or signage are attached to a rail component using hooks. An insertion member is placed at each end of the assembled rail and the rail is guided through an opening in the mount component securing the lights or signage to the building.

Gutter mounting system

The present invention is an integrated housing mounting system for mounting ornamentation to buildings. Mount components are attached to a building in place of J-channel, J molding, drip edge, gutter apron or siding. Rail components are assembled to the desired length using connector components and lights or signage are attached to a rail component using hooks. A guide member is placed at each end of the assembled rail and the rail is guided through an opening in the mount component securing the lights or signage to the building. The rail components are then guided through an opening in the mount component.

A bond for a metal single layer abrasive tool can be easily chemically and electrochemically stripped from the metal core of a recovered used tool to facilitate reuse of the core. Relative to conventionally bonded tools, the speed of stripping the novel bond is quick, and the stripped core has a smooth, clean surface which needs only minimal mechanical repair prior to reuse. The composition of the novel bond consists essentially of copper, tin and titanium. It can be brazed at temperatures below diamond graphitization and is chemically compatible with diamond. Hence, the bond is particularly useful for the manufacture of large diameter, superabrasive metal single layer abrasive wheels employed in the construction industry. The bond can be applied to the cutting surface of the abrasive tool as a uniform mixture of bronze alloy, titanium compound and copper powders. The powders may be mixed with a liquid vehicle and applied as a paste. The method of brazing the bond incorporates heating the bond composition to a temperature at most about 880&deg; C. to melt the bronze alloy and titanium compound components, and raising the temperature to at least about 900&deg; C. to dissolve the copper. The bond can also include an about 10-200 &mgr;m thick barrier layer of copper coating the cutting surface between the core and the bond composition.

Removable bond for abrasive tool

A method and apparatus for machining flat or planarizing a fire deck of a bimetallic engine block includes providing a grinding wheel by disposing a series of abrasive inserts at spaced locations along a circumference of a circular head, so that during rotation of the head, the inserts form a notional annular grinding ring. The head is preferably a conventional milling head and the inserts are sized and shaped to fit within receptacles adapted to receive conventional milling inserts. In an alternate embodiment, a second series of abrasive inserts may be disposed radially inward of the first series of inserts to form an inner notional annular grinding ring disposed concentrically with the outer ring. Inner and outer inserts preferably comprise a single layer of diamond abrasive brazed onto a metallic substrate. Fabrication of the inserts with a single layer of abrasive brazed onto a substantially planar grinding face may enable a conventional milling head and milling machine to grind bimetallic workpieces without the need for the guarding typically required for bonded abrasive grinding wheels.

Abrasive inserts for grinding bimetallic components

A grinding wheel is provided for grinding the fire deck of an engine block. The grinding wheel, includes a first annular grinding element disposed concentrically with the wheel on a backing plate. The first annular grinding element includes a first abrasive component of either metal brazed single layer abrasive components or abrasive components comprising grain bonded in a porous matrix having about 55 to 80 volume percent interconnected porosity. The wheel preferably has a second annular grinding element disposed concentrically inward of the first annular grinding element. The first annular grinding element preferably comprises a single layer of relatively course diamond abrasive component brazed on a metallic substrate, while the second annular grinding element preferably comprises a single layer of relatively fine diamond abrasive components brazed on a similar substrate. Each of the first and second grinding elements are formed as a discrete units individually fastened to the backing plate to facilitate independent height adjustment of the annular grinding elements relative the backing plate. Fabrication of the first and second annular grinding elements as discrete members individually fastened to the backing plate serves to simplify both assembly of the wheel and height adjustment of the first and second annular grinding elements relative one another. Although one piece annular grinding elements are contemplated, each element may be fabricated as multi-part assemblies, such as two 180 degree or four 90 degree portions in order to prevent the accumulation of stresses and distortion during high speed testing.

The powder components can be used dry or mixed with a fugitive liquid binder as a paste. The novel bond can be brazed at lower temperature than copper/tin/titanium bonds prepared otherwise. The bond composition forms a good melt at braze temperature that flows smoothly, evenly over a tool preform and provides consistent quality bonding of abrasive from tool to tool.

Coated abrasives with engineered abrasive surfaces are produced using superabrasive particles mixed with metal particles in a cold-forming process.

Superabrasive products

A method is provided for machining the fire deck of an engine block. The method includes providing a grinding wheel having an outer annular grinding element disposed concentrically or the wheel may be provided with an inner annular grinding element disposed concentrically inward of an outer element. The outer element comprises a single layer of relatively coarse diamond abrasive brazed on a metallic substrate, while the inner element comprises a single layer of relatively fine diamond abrasive brazed on a similar substrate. The outer grinding element and the inner element if utilized, is formed as a discrete unit individually fastened to a backing plate to facilitate independent height adjustment of the elements relative the backing plate. The method further comprises orienting the grinding wheel with its axis of rotation at a predetermined oblique angle a relative the fire deck. The wheel is then translated towards the engine block along a tool path parallel to the fire deck wherein the outer ring will engage the block for bulk material removal, followed by the inner ring, if utilized, which removes a smaller amount of material to apply the requisite surface finish to the fire deck.

Method for grinding bimetallic components

An abrasive grit for a metal bonded Single Layer abrasive tool includes abrasive grains coated with a first active component. The active component is mechanically-bound to the surface of the superabrasive grains. Preferably the abrasive is a superabrasive, especially diamond, and the first active component is titanium, either in the form of elemental Ti or TiH.sub.2. The novel grit is made by mixing the first active powder component in a liquid binder to form an adhesive paste; mixing the paste with the abrasive grains to wet the grains, and drying the mixture to adhere active component to the grains. The coated abrasive can be brazed onto a core to form a Single Layer tool, especially with a brazing composition that includes a bronze alloy and small concentrations of a second active component. During brazing the novel abrasive grains provide excellent surface contact with the brazing composition and the braze strongly bind the grains to the tool core. The brazed composition is easy to chemically or electrochemically strip from the cores of worn abrasive tools to permit reconstruction of the tools.

A bond material for a metal single layer abrasive tool, and especially for a tool with diamond abrasive, provides an excellent combination of mechanical properties including structural strength and impact resistance. The bond material is sufficiently compatible with both metal and diamond to effectively wet the abrasive grains and the core of the tool during brazing. The bond material can braze at a temperature range low enough that the core will not distort and diamond grains will not graphitize during brazing. The novel bond material composition contains a copper/tin bronze alloy; elemental titanium; zirconium; hard granular wear resistant particles; and elemental carbon. The wear resistant particles are preferably titanium carbide. Importantly, the bond produced from the material has superior wear resistance while remaining very adhesive to diamond.

The powder components can be used dry or mixed with a fugitive liquid binder as a paste. The novel bond can be brazed at lower temperature than copper/tin/titanium bonds prepared otherwise. The bond composition forms a good melt at braze temperature that flows smoothly, evenly over a tool preform and provides consistent quality bonding of abrasive from tool to tool.
