An automatic mechanical tensioner assembly with a shipping and installation position in which a collar engages a fixed hollow sleeve, limiting or securing a moveable tensioner housing in place against the force of a spring. The collar has a semicircular body defining an inner circumference extending from a first end to a second end of the body. The semicircular body has two axially extending flanges defining a cutout, and a collar tab extending radially from the semicircular body. In the shipping and installation position, the first end of the collar engages with a delivery groove of the hollow sleeve, biasing the moveable housing towards an anti-rotation washer engaged with an end of the fixed hollow sleeve and compressing the spring.

A tooth jump protection device is used to control chain slack and delay the torque at which chain jump occurs, thus increasing jump torque performance. The tooth jump protection device is preferably mounted to the transfer case.

One embodiment includes a tensioner that includes a housing, a piston, and a shoe. The piston extends from the housing. The shoe is carried by the piston and has a recess. The recess receives a portion or more of the piston.

One embodiment may include an automotive timing chain system component () such as a tensioner arm () or a chain guide () that, during use, bears directly or indirectly against a chain () of an automotive timing chain system (). One exemplary embodiment includes a U-shaped chain guide bracket including a base wall extending in a longitudinal direction from an upstream end to a downstream end of the base wall, and a pair of laterally opposed side walls extending away from the base wall and having laterally opposed mounting pads and apertures. The base wall and opposed side walls establish an upstream end, a downstream end, a central portion between the upstream and downstream ends, and a general U-shaped cross-section at least at each of the upstream and downstream ends and at the central portion. The bracket is formed from sheet metal.

A guide rail for power transmission chains consists of a plastic material and is formed by a carrier and a slideway lining body. The slideway lining body is manufactured by an extrusion molding process. The carrier and the slideway lining body having complementary profiles allowing the slide portion to be inserted and locked onto the carrier portion without additional locking mechanisms.
