An active stylus includes a stylus tip assembly and an elongate housing enclosing a portion of the stylus tip assembly. A winged bracket mounted within the elongate housing and affixed to a tip-distal end of the stylus tip assembly is configured to flex in response to pressure applied to the stylus tip assembly. A strain gauge disposed along the winged bracket is configured to measure strain along the winged bracket caused by pressure applied to the tip assembly.

An active stylus includes an elongate housing having a tip end and a secondary end, opposite the tip end. An inductive charging coil is mounted within the elongate housing, between the tip end and the secondary end. A magnet configured to magnetically hold the inductive charging coil in a charging position and orientation relative to an inductive charger is moveably mounted within the elongate housing between the tip end and the inductive charging coil.

An electronic stylus device includes a stylus tip element having a stylus tip end and an opposing end. The stylus tip element is positioned at an end of the electronic stylus device and aligned along the long center axis of the electronic stylus device. A nutation collar is positioned about the stylus tip element and the long center axis. The nutation collar provides one or more bearing surfaces around the stylus tip element between the stylus tip end and the opposing end of the stylus tip element. The one or more bearing surfaces permit the stylus tip element to nutate within the nutation collar. A deflection sensor is positioned proximate to the opposing end of the stylus tip element on the long center axis and detects lateral deflection of the opposing end of the stylus tip element relative to the long center axis of the electronic stylus device.

An electronic device has a chassis with an open state and a closed state. The chassis has a first portion, a second portion, and a perforated hinge. The first portion has a first outer edge and a first inner edge. The second portion has a second outer edge and a second inner edge. The perforated hinge has a plurality of perforations. The perforated hinge is positioned between the first portion and the second portion at the first inner edge and the second inner edge. The first portion, the second portion, and the perforated hinge are integrally formed from a continuous piece and the perforated hinge is deformable to mate the first outer edge to the second outer edge in the closed state.

The structure and devices described herein provide an improved attachment for a peripheral device, such as a stylus, to a computing device when not in use. A stylus may have magnets contained therein that cooperate with magnets in a computing device to magnetically secure the stylus to the computing device when not in use. In addition, a retractable interlock may automatically extend from the stylus when the stylus is in proximity of the computing device. The interlock is received in a receptacle of the computing device to provide an improved attachment through the mechanical interaction of the interlock and the receptacle. The interlock is biased in a retracted position and automatically extends through magnetic attraction with the computing device.

The description relates to devices having sensing tips and releasably retaining the sensing tips. One example includes a tip holder that defines a cavity that receives the sensing tip. This example also includes first and second clamps positioned radially around the tip holder and extending through holes in the tip holder into the cavity to contact the sensing tip. The example further includes a flexible clamp band positioned around the first and second clamps and biasing the first and second clamps inwardly against the sensing tip.

The described technology includes a digital pen tip with a pen tip body and an elastomeric front end formed at a front end of the pen tip body, wherein the pen tip body is formed during a first stage of a two shot molding process and the front end is formed at a second stage of the two shot molding process.

In implementations of a linear encoder force transducer, an encoder component generates light that enters a light input window of an encoder strip, and reflective surfaces disperse the light internally within the encoder strip. The encoder strip has etched lines formed cross-width of the encoder strip for emitted light that exits the encoder strip. The encoder component has gradated slots through which the emitted light from the encoder strip is detected by an array of photo transistors, each of the gradated slots corresponding to one of the photo transistors in the array of photo transistors. An encoder module can determine a linear displacement, such as representative of a force applied to a pen tip of a computer input pen, based on one or more of the photo transistors detecting the emitted light as the etched lines of the encoder strip move relative to the gradated slots of the encoder component.

A device and a method for manufacturing of a printed circuit board for installing in a battery-powered device, the method including mounting on a printed circuit board (PCB) a PCB surface mount component comprising a planar mount configured to be mounted on the PCB and a kinetic energy absorption element with a battery contact on a distal end of the energy absorption element, and trimming the PCB out of a panel comprising the PCB and a border around the PCB, the border connected integrally with the PCB, wherein the border comprises supports configured to support corresponding ear extensions in the absorption element in order to align the battery contact with a PCB plane.

Techniques for a handheld input apparatus are described. Generally, a handheld input apparatus can be used to provide input to various types of devices. According to various embodiments, a described handheld input apparatus includes a strain sensor for determining different load forces on a tip of the apparatus. According to various embodiments, a described handheld input apparatus includes components for determining an angular and/or rotational orientation of the apparatus relative to an input surface. Based on the different determined forces and/or orientation information, input characteristics of a handheld input apparatus can be controlled.

Techniques for haptics for a handheld input apparatus are described. Generally, a handheld input apparatus can be used to provide input to various types of devices. According to various embodiments, a described handheld input apparatus includes a haptic motor for generating different haptic interactions between a tip of the apparatus and an input surface. According to various embodiments, a described handheld input apparatus includes strain sensor for determining different load forces on a tip of the apparatus. In at least some embodiments, a haptic mode for the haptic motor is determined based on load force detected by the strain sensor.

Haptics for a handheld input apparatus

A contact to provide an electrical connection between two circuit boards, such as a rigid circuit board and a flexible circuit board installed in a container, such as an electronic stylus or a cellular telephone. The contact head generally has the shape of an inverted spoon, which allows the contact head to slide smoothly onto a desired electrical contact pad on the flexible circuit board. The contact has a unitary design, including a spring, which reduces the likelihood of damage to the flexible circuit board or to the contact when the rigid circuit board is installed in the electronic stylus. The spring design reduces the likelihood that the contact will be bent when the rigid circuit board is installed, and also allows the contact to be balanced, which is advantageous for wave-soldering operations. The contact also has a pick surface, which is useful in vacuum pick-and-place operations.

Surface-mount-technology-compatible electrical contact

Systems, methodologies, methods of manufacture, and other embodiments associated with semiconductor/processor module assemblies are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes a bolster plate assembly for a semiconductor module assembly that includes a bolster plate and a leaf spring pre-loaded onto the bolster plate. The example system may also include the leaf spring being releasably attached to the bolster plate and positioned to provide a force in a direction generally away from the bolster plate. The leaf spring can be configured to release from the bolster plate upon attaching the semiconductor module assembly to the bolster plate that causes the leaf spring to exert the force in the direction generally away from the bolster plate and against a semiconductor module assembly.
