Dental compositions and methods of formulating a dental composition are described. In one embodiment, the dental composition comprises a polymerizable resin comprising one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers or oligomers and nanoparticles. The nanoparticles have a refractive index of at least 1.600 and an average discrete or aggregate particle size of no greater than 100 nm. The dental composition further comprises inorganic metal oxide filler having a discrete or aggregate average particle size of at least 200 nm. The nanoparticles are present at a concentration to provide a refractive index differential between the cured polymerizable resin and inorganic metal oxide filler such that the contrast ratio of the dental composition is at least 40.

Disclosed herein are non-aqueous compositions including: a flowable Part A including at least one resin and Reactant A; and a flowable Part B including at least one resin and Reactant B; wherein at least one of flowable Part A and flowable Part B further includes a free radically polymerizable resin; wherein at least one of flowable Part A and flowable Part B further includes a free radical initiator system; wherein flowable Part A and flowable Part B are capable of being mixed to provide a flowable mixed composition; wherein when flowable Part A and flowable Part B are mixed, Reactant A and Reactant B are capable of interacting to cause a non-free radical reaction within a first staging time to provide a first staged stable consistency for the mixed composition; wherein Reactant A comprises an acid and Reactant B comprises a base, and upon mixing flowable Part A and flowable Part B, the Reactant A acid is capable of reacting with the Reactant B base in an ionic acid-base reaction; and wherein the mixed composition having the first staged stable consistency is capable of forming a hardened dental composition upon initiation of free radical polymerization.

Multi-part dental composition having staged viscosity prior to hardening

A radiation curable composition including at least one radiation hardenable component, a photo-initiator, and a filler material having a population of particulates in an amount greater than or equal to 50% by weight of the printable composition. The population of particulates exhibits a median diameter (D50) of greater than or equal to 0.3 micrometer on a volume-average basis as determined using the Particle Size Test Method, and the radiation curable composition exhibits a viscosity of less than or equal to 150 Pa s when measured using the Viscosity Test Method. A method, apparatus, and systems for producing composite articles by selectively exposing a portion of the radiation curable composition to a source of actinic radiation to at least partially cure the exposed portion of the radiation curable composition, thereby forming a hardened layer, preferably by an additive manufacturing process such as stereophotolithography, are also described. A curable composition that includes a urethane multifunctional (meth)acrylate, an inorganic filler having a primary particle dimension of at least 200 nm, a photoinitiator system that can be activated by electromagnetic radiation in the range of 340-550 nm, a reactive diluent, and a reinforcing silica having a primary particle dimension of 100 nm of less. The sum of the absolute value of the difference in the refractive index of the filler and the refractive index of the composition cured without filler plus the birefringence of the filler is 0.054 or less, i.e. 0.054&#x2265;|n&#x2212;n|+&#x3b4;, where nis the refractive index of the filler, nis the refractive index of the composition cured without filler, and &#x3b4;is the birefringence of the filler.

Light curable compositions

Disclosed herein are curable glass ionomer compositions that include a first paste and a second paste, and methods for using the disclosed compositions. The first paste includes water, a polyacid, and a non acid-reactive filler. The second paste includes water, an acid-reactive filler; and non-aggregated, water-miscible, nano-sized silica particles having at least 25% surface coverage of the particles with a silane. The composition is essentially free of a resin. In some embodiments, the water content of the first paste and the second paste of the paste/paste GI composition disclosed herein is less than 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition.

Disclosed herein are curable glass ionomer compositions that include a first paste and a second paste, and methods for using the disclosed compositions. The first paste includes water, a polyacid, and a non acid-reactive filler. The second paste includes water and an acid-reactive filler. At least one of the first paste and the second paste further includes substantially crystalline inorganic fibers. In some embodiments, the water content of the first paste and the second paste of the paste/paste GI composition disclosed herein is less than 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition.

Novel stress-reducing crosslinking oligomers that have application in dental restoratives, thin films, hardcoats, composites, adhesives, and other uses subject to stress reduction are described. The addition-fragmentation process of crosslinking results in a chain-transfer event that provides novel polymers that may be further functionalized. In addition, the addition-fragmentation oligomer comprises pendent functional groups that bond to a substrate by forming an ionic or covalent bond, or etch the substrate by chemically removing some material from the substrate.

The invention relates to a kit of parts for preparing a glass ionomer composition for dental use, the kit of parts comprising a Powder Part P and a Liquid Part L, Powder Part P comprising: acid-reactive inorganic filler, Liquid Part L comprising: water, complexing agent, polyacid, either the Powder Part P or the Liquid Part L or the Powder Part P and the Liquid Part L comprising non-aggregated nano-sized particles based on silica or alumina, the composition obtained by combining the components of Powder Part P and Liquid Part L before hardening comprising the components in the following amounts: non-aggregated nano-sized particles: from 0.1 to 15 wt.-%, acid-reactive filler in an amount from 50 to 75 wt.-%, polyacid: 7 to 20 wt.-%, complexing agent: 0.5 to 3 wt.-%, water: 5 to 18 wt.-%, wt.-% with respect to the weight of the whole composition.

Curable compositions and methods for isolating a working area

The present disclosure provides a composite material, a method of making and using the composite material and dental products made by hardening the composite material. The composite material includes a polymerizable component, ceramic fibers and nanoclusters. Each of the ceramic fibers of the composite material has a length and where the length of fifty percent of the ceramic fibers, based on a total number of the ceramic fibers, is at least 50 micrometers and the length of ninety percent of the ceramic fibers, based on the total number of the ceramic fibers, is no greater than 500 micrometers. The composite material can also include discrete non-fumed metal oxide nanoparticles. The composite material can be hardened to become any one of a dental restorative, a dental adhesive, a dental mill blank, a dental cement, a dental prostheses, an orthodontic device, an orthodontic adhesive, a dental casting material or a dental coating.

Composite material having ceramic fibers

The present application is directed to a dental material and a method of using the dental material. The dental material can include a hardenable resin; an initiator system; a filler; and from about 1 wt % to about 20 wt % zinc compound, based on the weight of the hardenable resin. The contrast ratio of the cured dental material increases by at least about 10 units after continuous exposure to an aqueous solution for 21 days.

Dental materials and methods

Presently described are dental compositions comprising one or more fatty mono(meth)acrylates, methods of use, dental articles, and methods of making dental compositions. It has been found that a relatively low concentration of a fatty mono(meth)acrylate can improve the handling characteristics of a dental composition by reducing the tendency of the composition to stick to a dental instrument and/or by reducing the tendency of a dental composition to string when being manipulated by a dental instrument. In one embodiment, a hardenable dental composition is described comprising a polymerizable resin composition comprising at least one multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer; 0.2 to 10 wt-% of one or more fatty mono(meth)acrylate monomers; and at least 50 wt-% of inorganic oxide filler.
