An analyte monitor includes a sensor, a sensor control unit, and a display unit. The sensor control unit typically has a housing adapted for placement on skin and is adapted to receive a portion of an electrochemical sensor. The sensor control unit also includes two or more conductive contacts disposed on the housing and configured for coupling to two or more contact pads on the sensor. A transmitter is disposed in the housing and coupled to the plurality of conductive contacts for transmitting data obtained using the sensor. The display unit has a receiver for receiving data transmitted by the transmitter of the sensor control unit and a display coupled to the receiver for displaying an indication of a level of an analyte, such as blood glucose. An inserter having a retractable introducer is provided for subcutaneously implanting the sensor in a predictable and reliable fashion.

An actuator assembly of a disc drive having an actuator arm rotatably mounted adjacent a data disc. The actuator arm includes a piezoelectric assembly configured to displace a data transducer relative to the data disc. The piezoelectric assembly may include a top-left piezoelectric element, a top-right piezoelectric element, a bottom-left piezoelectric element, and a bottom-right piezoelectric element. The actuator arm also includes an hourglass-shaped arm pivot configured to bias the data transducer to a rest position.

A reduced-height structure for a voice coil motor which forms a portion of the actuator in a disc drive data storage device includes a through opening in the base member of the disc drive housing within which the lower pole piece of the voice coil motor is mounted. A top pole piece of the Voice coil motor is mounted directly to the top cover of the disc drive housing and proper spacing between the top pole piece and the voice coil motor components mounted to the base a member is determined and maintained by a precisely machined surface in the base member. The lower pole piece is preferably mounted to the base member with cold-flowed brass rivets.

A rotary voice coil actuator assembly for a disc drive, including a stack of head/flexure/arm assemblies, spacers and an actuator motor coil assembly arrayed on a substantially cylindrical actuator body, all held in place between a radially extending flange at a first end of the actuator body and a nut engaged with threads at a second end of the actuator body, and further including a compliant washer interposed between the lowermost member of the stacked actuator elements and the nut. In a preferred embodiment, the compliant washer is formed with a circumferential corrugation.

A spacer supports a disc on a hub in a disc drive. The hub is rotatable about an axis of rotation. The spacer includes a member having an inner radial surface defining a hub receiving aperture for receiving an exterior surface of the hub. The inner radial surface has a generally annular groove extending from the inner radial surface generally radially outwardly from the hub.

A disc drive assembly constructed in a manner to avoid relative movement of the actuator arms relative to one another even under shock or other substantial forces comprises a flange, actuator arm supports, voice coil support and appropriate spacers, with a nut on the bottom of the pivot stack assembly supporting the above named components setting the relative position of these pieces relative to the pivot cartridge. Each above identified element of the stack is then laser welded to an adjacent piece in order to prevent rotation of any actuator arm. The pieces are laser welded at a curved edge of the part where the parts are rounded so that the adjacent edges lie very close to each other.

A hub has a disc concentrically mounted about the hub for rotation with the hub. The hub has a body portion with a first axial end, a second axial end and a surface extending between the first and second axial ends. A flange is disposed at the second axial end of the hub and supports the magnetic disc. A clamp is disposed about the body portion of the hub proximate the first axial end of the hub. The clamp and the flange clamp the disc for rotation with the hub. The first axial end of the hub includes a sufficient number of slots communicating with an inner surface of the clamp such that the clamp is removable by applying a radial force to the inner surface of the clamp through the slots to attain a minimum radial displacement of the clamp which exceeds a maximum radial interference between the hub and the clamp and such that strain induced in the clamp is less than a desired percent so the clamp remains unbroken upon being radially displaced.
