A school bus stop arm and drive unit therefor are disclosed. The stop arm includes a stop sign and a drive unit for moving the stop sign between a retracted position and a deployed position. In some embodiments the stop sign is illuminated. In some embodiments the drive unit includes a controller.

A school bus stop arm and drive unit therefor are disclosed. The stop an includes a stop sign and a drive unit for moving the stop sign between a retracted position and a deployed position. The drive unit comprises a motor operably coupled to the stop sign, one or more position sensors operable to detect the presence of the stop sign, and a controller for controlling operation of the motor. The controller configured to, monitor one or more operating characteristics of the motor for conditions indicative of an obstruction to movement of the stop sign, monitor the position sensor for a confirmation signal indicative of the presence of the stop sign in the deployed or retracted position, and based on the conditions indicative of an obstruction and the confirmation signal, determine if the stop sign has reached one of the deployed and retracted positions or is being obstructed.

A strain sensor system emits coarse interrogation signals of different frequencies during a coarse scan while an RF resonant sensor and/or an RF interrogator moves relative to the other. The sensor emits responsive RF signals within a frequency range of a frequency of interest of the sensor. The controller identifies the frequency of interest based on receipt of the responsive signals. The interrogator emits fine interrogation signals of different frequencies during a fine scan subsequent to the coarse scan. The fine signals are emitted at frequencies within a frequency band on both sides of the frequency of interest. The sensor emits responsive RF signals and the controller identifies a center frequency of the RF resonant sensor based on receipt of the responsive signals.

Strain sensor systems

A signal detection system for use with a signaling system is disclosed, the signal detection system comprising a plurality of electrical terminals including a source terminal and an output terminal, the output terminal being connected to a signaling device. An auxiliary terminal electrically coupled to at least one of the plurality of electrical terminals is provided. A current sensor is coupled to the auxiliary terminal for detecting an electrical signal for controlling the signaling device. The current sensor generating an output signal in response to the detection of the electrical signal for controlling the signaling device for monitoring the status of the signaling device. Also disclosed is a method for installing a signal detection system in a wayside signaling system including a signaling device for monitoring a status of the signaling device. An apparatus for connecting a current sensor to a signaling device is also disclosed.

Signal detection system and method

A system includes a router transceiver unit that is configured to be disposed on-board a vehicle system. The vehicle system may have at least a source vehicle and a separate linked vehicle that are communicatively linked with each other through a system network of the vehicle system. The router transceiver unit is configured to be communicatively coupled to a requesting operational component of the source vehicle and the system network. The router transceiver unit is also configured to receive a local data packet from the requesting operational component that is directed toward a target operational component of the linked vehicle. The router transceiver unit includes an encapsulation module that is configured to transform the local data packet into an in-tunnel data packet, wherein the local and in-tunnel data packets have different packet formats.

System and method for communicating data in a vehicle system

There is provided a voltage or current sensing device. An exemplary voltage or current sensing device includes a drive circuitry configured to deliver a drive current to a magnetic core operably coupled with a conductor, for driving the core to cyclical magnetic saturation. The device also includes sense circuitry configured to receive a voltage signal corresponding to an application current in the conductor. The device also includes signal processing circuitry configured to sample the voltage signal, wherein a first sample is in phase with the drive current and a second sample is out of phase with the drive current. The device also includes a feedback loop configured to deliver a compensation current to the magnetic core, wherein the compensation current is configured to balance the magnetic core and wherein the compensation current is based at least in part on the first sample in phase with the drive current.

Current sensor

A system includes a router transceiver unit that is configured to be disposed on-board a vehicle system. The vehicle system may have at least a source vehicle and a separate linked vehicle that are mechanically linked with each other to travel together along a route and that are communicatively linked with each other through a system network of the vehicle system. The router transceiver unit is configured to be communicatively coupled to a requesting operational component of the source vehicle and the system network. The router transceiver unit is also configured to receive a local data packet from the requesting operational component that is directed toward a target operational component of the linked vehicle. The router transceiver unit includes an encapsulation module that is configured to transform the local data packet into an in-tunnel data packet, where the local and in-tunnel data packets have different packet formats.

Systems and methods for personalizing data card are disclosed. One embodiment includes a card receiver configured to receive one or more data cards, a control system connected to the card receiver, the control system configured to receive personalization information, an encoder system connected to the control system, the encoder system configured to encode the one or more data cards with at least some portion of the personalization information, a card reader connected to the control system, the card reader configured to read magnetic fingerprint information from the one or more data cards, and the control system configured to store the magnetic fingerprint information.

System and method for personalizing a card

A method for decoding information contained in a waveform having a series of peaks is disclosed which is particularly directed to a method for reading a magnetic stripe for example on a card that allows the information on the stripe to be read without the need for unidirectional, single stroke swiping motion of the stripe. Features are disclosed that permit the accurate decoding of magnetic stripe data to define the bi-phase coded bits in the presence of signal degradations caused specifically, but not exclusively, by variations in the read speed including stop events and reversals. The method uses sampling of the waveform at a variable rate based upon the area of the waveform. The samples are used to locate peaks in the waveform, the profiles of which are then compared using various criteria with trained model peaks to classify the peaks into different types based upon the intersection between the different bits allowed under the bi-phase coding rules. The classified peaks are decoded into the bits and characters using confidence factors, windows of peaks, reverse gap closures and information from reversals to resolve areas of low confidence.

Magnetic stripe reader

Displacement of an object from a sensor is detected using a fiber optic a discharge end of which is arranged adjacent to the space from the object. Light passing along the fiber optic is reflected at the discharge end and is also reflected by the object at a position spaced from the discharge end. These two reflected parts of the light interfere causing an interference pattern. The light path from the discharge end to the object is cyclically varied using a sinusoidal dither obtained either by physical movement or by electro-optical means. This allows the output from the photo diode detecting the return reflected light to be analyzed as an alternating signal varying over time rather than as a simple comparison of absolute values as is used in the conventional techniques.

Fiberoptic displacement sensor using interferometric techniques

Built-in current mode quiescent current monitoring circuitry is provided for measuring a circuit's or a subcircuit's quiescent current. Anomalously high quiescent current (Iddq) generally results as a consequence of a manufacturing defect. These defects include those not detected by tests generated using traditional fault models. The technique provided here is based upon generating a proportionally matched current to the circuit under test current by a control loop. The proportionally matched current is then sent to a comparator where it is compared to a reference current, the reference current representing an acceptable quiescent current level. The output of the comparator then indicates whether the quiescent current is above or below the reference current.
