A device may be configured to receive a message from a user device; and determine whether the message includes a parameter. When the message does not include the loop indicator parameter, the device may add the loop indicator parameter to the message to generate a first modified message, and output the first modified message toward an intended recipient of the message. When the message includes the loop indicator parameter, the device may determine whether a value of the loop indicator parameter exceeds a threshold value. When the value of the loop indicator parameter does not exceed the threshold value, the device may discard the message. When the value of the loop indicator parameter exceeds the threshold value, the device may modify the value of the loop indicator parameter value to generate a second modified message, and output the second modified message toward the intended recipient of the message.

Preventing SMS message forwarding loops

A message center for source-based message routing may include a processor and a memory communicatively connected to the processor. The processor may be configured to receive a first message having a first message transfer layer indicating a first destination address and a first message transaction layer, receive a second message having a second message transfer layer indicating a second destination address and a second message transaction layer indicating an alternate routing, read at least the first message transfer layer of the first message, read at least the second message transaction layer of the second message, route the first message based in part on the first destination address of the first message transfer layer, and route the second message based in part on the second destination address of the second message transfer layer and the alternate routing of the second message transaction layer.

Source-based network routing

Short message service (SMS) copy forward and carbon copy methods and systems are provided. An SMS message is received at a first network device and is delivered to a first mobile device. A copy indication associated with the sender or the first mobile device instructs the first network device to send a copy of the received SMS message to a second mobile device. Responsive to the copy indication, the first network device replaces a teleservice type identifier in a teleservice space of the received SMS message with a message copy indicator based on a predetermined mapping between the teleservice type identifier and the message copy indicator, to form a modified SMS message. The modified SMS message is sent to a second network device associated with the second mobile device. The second network device detects the message copy indicator to determine whether the modified SMS message is enabled for further copying.

Looping protection for copy forward SMS subscribers

A method performed by a network device may include receiving a mobile directory number (MDN) that has been identified as a mobile spam originator and generating a query for attributes of a mobile device registered with the MDN. The method also includes receiving a query response that include attributes of the mobile device and determining to block the mobile device from access to a network associated with the network device. The method further includes providing, by the network device and to a blacklist system, one or more of the device attributes.

Disabling mobile devices that originate message service spam

Systems and method for identifying and blocking short messaging service spam are disclosed. In some aspects, a first mobile messaging service message is received from a messaging source in a node of a mobile communication network, the first mobile messaging service message being addressed to a destination mobile device. The first mobile messaging service message is forwarded through the mobile communication network for delivery to the destination mobile device. Whether or not the first mobile messaging service message meets a spam messaging criterion is determined, where determining whether or not the first mobile messaging service message meets the spam messaging criterion occurs in parallel with forwarding the first mobile messaging service message through the mobile communication network. Information identifying the messaging source as a spam source is stored, upon determining that the first mobile messaging service message meets the spam messaging criterion.

Identifying and blocking mobile messaging service spam

A messaging system for a wireless network may be constructed using a gateway architecture in which a number of messaging servers are connected to external networks through the gateway. In one implementation, a method implemented in the system may include receiving a message that is communicated as part of a messaging protocol for delivering text or multimedia messages to user devices and altering the message to include a billing identifier describing how the message should be billed. The message may be altered by the gateway and may be transmitted to a messaging server for extraction of the billing information.
