A compact convertible single pass (SP)/double pass (DP) optical system is disclosed. The convertible optical system is convertible in the sense that the optical system can be configured to have any one of multiple configurations, including SP/DP, DP/SP, just SP, or just DP. This flexibility in the configuration is made possible by a compact baseplate with various predefined mounting points for the various optical elements required for the different configurations. Further, there is significant commonality among the optical elements required to implement the various configurations. For this reason, if one is cost constrained, one can start with the compact baseplate and populate it with the optical elements required for either the SP or DP configuration and later add the optical elements required to create the SP/DP or DP/SP configuration as funding permits.

Compact convertible universal single pass/double pass optical system

A test fixture facilitates non-destructive testing of a protective mask. The test fixture includes a mock facial structure, a clamping form that makes a seal around at least part of the facial structure, and can employ the retaining straps of the protective mask to a make a seal around at least part of the facial structure. In use, the protective mask is tested in situ on the facial structure. In some examples, the clamping form has a negative contour of the mock facial structure or of the outer surface of a protective mask that is to be tested. The testing can include repetitive testing of the fit, structural components (e.g., ultrasonic welds and straps), and the degradation of materials as a function of donning/doffing or environmental factors (e.g., temperature and humidity).

A hermetically-sealed edge-connect header that can withstand high temperatures, high pressures (or high vacuum levels), and high vibration environments, along with two corresponding connectors are disclosed. After brazing the edge-connect header components, the assembly is machined to form a slot with a portion of each of a plurality of electrical conductors removed in the machining process, resulting in a header with a high pin density. During the process of mating the first connector design to the edge-connect header, a plurality of wipers in the connector deflect, thereby causing the wipers to extend from the connector and contact the corresponding electrical conductors in the header. During the process of mating the second connector design to the edge-connect header, each of a plurality of wipers formed of low-mass, compliant metal wool, forms multiple contact points with a corresponding electrical conductor in the header.

A spring performance tester and method of testing a spring are disclosed that has improved accuracy and precision over prior art spring testers. The tester can perform static and cyclic testing. The spring tester can provide validation for product acceptance as well as test for cyclic degradation of springs, such as the change in the spring rate and fatigue failure.
