A seat support is provided with a plurality of layers of a non-foam material to mount to a seat frame and to support an occupant upon the seat frame. The plurality of layers is stacked upon each other. At least one of the plurality of stacked layers has a generally uniform thickness.

A climate-controlled seat including a foam portion having a recess in a surface, an air channel extending through the foam and having a first opening configured to engage with a seat ventilation system and an opposed second opening adjacent to and operatively engaging the recess; a pair of gaskets located in the recess, adjacent to and on opposite sides of the second opening, the gaskets configured to block airflow from the second opening into the laterally extending recess; and a seat trim covering the foam portion over the surface and attached to the foam portion along the recess to provide a trench in the seat trim adjacent to the recess.

A seat support is provided with a plurality of layers of a non-foam material to mount to a seat frame and to support an occupant upon the seat frame. The plurality of layers is stacked upon each other, and each of the plurality of stacked layers has a generally uniform thickness.

A seat assembly with an adjustable head restraint assembly capable of being adjusted based on an approximate stature or spatial location of an occupant in the seat assembly. A seat assembly may include a sensor in the seat to detect if an occupant is present. The sensor may include a plurality of bladders and pressure sensors, a radar system, or a neuro-monitoring sensor. The sensor may send a signal to a controller indicating the presence of an occupant. The controller may approximate the size and/or spatial location of the occupant and send an adjustment signal to the head restraint adjustment mechanism to adjust the head restraint assembly to an in-use position. The controller may determine that an occupant is not present and send an adjustment signal to the head restraint adjustment mechanism to adjust the head restraint assembly to a non-use position.

A method of controlling a seat cooling cycle in a vehicle seat includes determining whether a vehicle cooling system is operating. If the vehicle cooling system is operating, then executing a seat cooling cycle such that portions of an occupant-facing surface of the vehicle seat are urged outwardly to create high contact zones between the occupant and the portions of the vehicle seat that have been urged outwardly, and such that areas of reduced occupant contact are defined between adjacent ones of the portions of the occupant-facing surface that are urged outwardly, wherein the areas of reduced occupant contact define low pressure zones that facilitate the flow of air between the vehicle seat and the occupant within the low pressure zones.

A vehicle seating system having a seat part includes a non-foam base material covered with a trim material. The non-foam base material may include a plurality of different firmness zones based at least in part on at least one of a seated-occupant pressure map and a structural arrangement disposed adjacent to the seat part. The seat part may be, for example, a seat cushion, a seat back, or a seat bolster.

Seating system and method for producing same

A seat assembly is provided with a seat bottom and a seat back extending upright from the seat bottom. At least two side bolster seating surfaces are spaced apart laterally on at least one of the seat bottom and the seat back. A bolster support assembly is provided adjacent each of the two side bolster seating surfaces. Each bolster support assembly has an air bladder and a rigid support mounted to the air bladder and positioned between the side bolster seating surface and the air bladder. When the air bladder is in an inflated position, a contact width of the rigid support along the bolster seating surface is greater than a bladder width.

A wiring carrier is shown and described and can include a plate body on which can be formed a connector mount and a wire securement structures. The wire securement structures can include a wire cradle that is the connector mount. A hatch is configures to engage the wire cradle to secure a wire in the wire cradle. The plate body further can include a connector on the plate and configured to connect the plate to another component. The wire securement structure can also include a flex feature to engage a wire in the cradle or by the hatch.

A vehicle seat includes a seat back, a seat bottom, and a thigh extender assembly. The thigh extender assembly includes an extension bracket assembly attached to the seat bottom, a thigh support attached to an end of the extension bracket such that the thigh support is moveable between a retracted position and an extended position, and a trim cover assembly disposed over the extension bracket assembly. The extension bracket assembly includes a seat bracket and an extension bracket with the extension bracket being moveable relative to the seat bracket such that when the thigh support moves between the retracted position and the extended position the extension bracket is concealed. The trim cover assembly is held fixed with respect to the seat bracket with the thigh support moving relative to the trim cover assembly.
