A thermal energy storage system for a vehicle. The system includes a tank that is external to the vehicle. The tank is configured to receive liquid from the vehicle, and store the liquid at or above a predetermined temperature prior to the liquid being returned to the vehicle.

Thermal energy storage systems

An air-conditioning system for a vehicle includes a switching heat exchanger. The switching heat exchanger includes a heat exchanger core, a receiver tank, and a switch valve. The switch valve may be arranged between the heat exchanger core and the receiver tank to control the flow of refrigerant. A controller can be configured to control the switch valve in an access position during a cooling mode and a bypass position during a heating mode. In the access position, the heat exchanger core is in communication with the receiver tank such that the refrigerant flows from a primary region of the heat exchanger core to the receiver tank. In the bypass position, the heat exchanger core is in communication with its outlet such that the refrigerant from the primary region flows out from the switching heat exchanger.

Vehicular air-conditioning system with a switching heat exchanger

A method for regulating coolant temperature of an HVAC heat pump system with coolant heating. The method includes measuring temperature of coolant flowing through the system, and configuring a valve assembly of the system to direct coolant flow to a heater core from both an engine and an engine bypass line when temperature of the coolant is above a predetermined threshold.

Thermostatic controlled heat pump water circuit

A heat recovery system captures, stores, and releases waste heat from an exhaust. The system includes a first exchanger that removes waste heat from the exhaust and transfers it to a heat transfer fluid. A second heat exchanger transfers at least a portion of the waste heat from the heat transfer fluid to a storage device. The storage device continuously stores the waste heat until a predetermined temperature is obtained. A pump draws flow of the heat transfer fluid from the first heat exchanger to the second heat exchanger. A valve directs flow of the heat transfer fluid into the storage device during a charge mode and out of the storage device during a discharge mode.

Automotive heat recovery system

A system may include a first heat exchanger, a pumping device, and a valve. The pumping device may be in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger. The valve may receive a fluid from the pumping device and may be movable between a first position allowing the fluid through a first flow path and a second position to allow the fluid to flow through a second flow path. The first heat exchanger may be in heat transfer relation with an energy storage device such that heat may be extracted from the energy storage device when the valve is in the first position. Heat may be transferred from the first heat exchanger to the energy storage device when the valve is in the second position.

Battery heating and cooling system

An evaporator unit comprising an evaporator, an internal heat exchanger defining a high pressure flow passage and a low pressure flow passage, an expansion device connected downstream of the high pressure flow passage of the internal heat exchanger and upstream of the evaporator. The internal heat exchanger is attached to the evaporator. With the above structure, the internal heat exchanger can utilize the remaining cooling capability of the refrigerant exiting from the evaporator for its greatest benefit.

Evaporator unit

A battery pack cooling system may utilize a shroud defining a throat and a body, which may contain a battery pack. An evaporator may be arranged against the battery pack. A liquid coolant delivery pipe may deliver liquid coolant from a reservoir to the throat section with the aid of gravity, a pump, or an ultrasonic misting device. A spray nozzle may also deliver liquid coolant into the throat. When in the throat, liquid coolant mixes with air blown by a fan. Gaps in the battery pack may align with gaps of the evaporator to permit liquid and air to be blown completely through the battery pack and through the evaporator. A refrigeration system including a refrigerant compressor, a condenser and an expansion device work to cool the evaporator to condense, cool and remove liquid coolant from the liquid and air mixture, and deposit it in the reservoir.
