Apparatus and methods are provided for closing a tubular structure within a patient's body, e.g., a varicose vein. In one example, the apparatus includes an outer member including a cannula and an inner member carrying a pusher member slidably received within a lumen of the cannula. The cannula is inserted into the patient's body into-and-through the vein, the cannula carrying a clip within the lumen including proximal and distal tines in a stressed state and a filament coupled to one of the proximal tines. The inner member is advanced relative to the outer member to advance the pusher member to expose the distal tines from the distal tip beyond the tubular structure, whereupon the distal tines elastically deform towards a relaxed state at least partially around the tubular structure. A release member coupled to the filament is disengaged to disengage the filament from the proximal tine, and the cannula is withdrawn such that the proximal tines are released and elastically deform to at least partially surround and close the tubular structure.

Apparatus and methods for closing vessels

Apparatus and methods are provided for closing a tubular structure within a patient's body. The apparatus includes a needle including a proximal end including a hub, a distal end including a sharpened distal tip, a lumen having an oblong cross-section extending proximally from the distal end, and defining a longitudinal axis between the proximal and distal ends, and a clip deliverable from the lumen. The clip is compressible between a relaxed state in which a plurality of tines of the clip are shaped to engage and close a tubular structure within a patient's body, and a stressed state in which the tines are compressed to allow the clip to be loaded into the. The apparatus may also include a pusher member for deploying the clip from the distal tip of the needle such that the tines engage and close a tubular structure through which the tubular member is directed.

An endovascular navigation system and method are disclosed. The endovascular navigation system includes an elongate flexible member configured to access the venous vasculature of a patient, a sensor disposed at a distal end of the elongate flexible member and configured to sense a physiological characteristic of the venous vasculature of the patient, a processor and a display. The processor is configured to receive and process the physiological characteristic of the venous vasculature of the patient, and to determine that the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within a predetermined structure within the venous vasculature of the patient. The display is configured to display a visual indication that the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within the predetermined structure within the venous vasculature of the patient, where the visual indication is different from the physiological characteristic of the venous vasculature of the patient.

Endovascular navigation system and method

A method of navigating and positioning an endovascular device in a vasculature is disclosed. Initially, a system including an endovascular device and at least one transducer is inserted into the lumen of a patient. An acoustic signal is then transmitted within the lumen. A reflected signal is pre-processed to extract one or more acoustic features. The one or more acoustic features are processed using a computer readable set of rules to produce an output related to guidance of the instrument within a blood vessel or a position of the instrument within the blood vessel.

An endovascular navigation system and method are disclosed. The endovascular navigation system includes an elongate flexible member, a processor, and a display. The elongate flexible member includes an endovascular electrogram lead disposed at its distal end for sensing an endovascular electrogram signal of the venous vasculature of the patient, and a first wireless interface configured to wirelessly transmit the endovascular electrogram signal to the processor. The processor includes a second wireless interface configured to wirelessly receive the endovascular electrogram signal from the elongate flexible member. The processor is configured to determine that the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within a predetermined structure within the venous vasculature of the patient. The display is configured to display a visual indication that the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within the predetermined structure.

Apparatus and method for endovascular device guiding and positioning using physiological parameters

In an aspect, embodiments of the invention relate to the effective and accurate placement of intravascular devices such as central venous catheters, in particular such as peripherally inserted central catheters or PICC. One aspect of the present invention relates to vascular access. It describes devices and methods for imaging guided vascular access and more effective sterile packaging and handling of such devices. A second aspect of the present invention relates to the guidance, positioning and placement confirmation of intravascular devices without the help of X-ray imaging. A third aspect of the present invention relates to devices and methods for the skin securement of intravascular devices and post-placement verification of location of such devices. A forth aspect of the present invention relates to improvement of the workflow required for the placement of intravascular devices.

Apparatus and method for vascular access

An endovascular navigation system and method are disclosed. The endovascular navigation system includes an elongate flexible member, a endovascular electrogram lead disposed at a distal end of the elongate flexible member and configured to sense an endovascular electrogram signal, a processor and an output device. The processor is configured to receive the endovascular electrogram signal, to determine a peak amplitude of a P-wave in the endovascular electrogram signal, and to determine that the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within a predetermined structure within the venous vasculature of the patient. The output device is configured to display a visual indication that the distal end of the elongate flexible member is within the predetermined structure within the venous vasculature of the patient, where the visual indication is different from the endovascular electrogram signal of the venous vasculature of the patient.

A method for evaluating flow characteristics in a vessel of a patient includes the steps of positioning a catheter having a balloon at a measuring location within the vessel; transmitting an ultrasound signal into the vessel while the balloon catheter is within the measuring location; evaluating a reflection of the ultrasound signal to determine a flow parameter within the vessel while the catheter is in the measuring position; expanding the balloon within the vessel at the measuring location; and stopping the expanding step when the result of the evaluating step is that the flow through the vessel is substantially stopped. In some embodiments, the method may further comprise the step of detecting an endovascular electrogram signal. The method may be designed for evaluating flow characteristics in a vessel of a patient while enabling the prevention of a balloon from over-expanding and/or over-distending a vessel of a patient.

Endovascular devices and methods of use

The invention relates to the guidance, positioning and placement confirmation of intravascular devices, typically inserted percutaneously into the venous or arterial vasculature. An aspect of the invention includes, for example, an endovenous access and guidance system. The system comprises: an elongate flexible member adapted and configured to access the venous vasculature of a patient; a sensor disposed at a distal end of the elongate flexible member and configured to provide in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient; a processor configured to receive and process in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient provided by the sensor and to provide position information regarding the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member within the venous vasculature of the patient; and an output device adapted to output the position information from the processor.

Endovenous access and guidance system utilizing non-image based ultrasound

The invention relates to the guidance, positioning and placement confirmation of intravascular devices typically inserted percutaneously into the venous or arterial vasculature. An endovenous access and guidance system is described that includes an elongate flexible member adapted and configured to access the venous vasculature of a patient; a sensor disposed at a distal end of the elongate flexible member and configured to provide in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient; a processor configured to receive and process in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient provided by the sensor and to provide position information regarding the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member within the venous vasculature of the patient; and an output device adapted to output the position information from the processor.
