The field of the invention is inducible gene expression systems wherein expression is controlled by a novel ecdysone or ultraspiracle receptor or its derivatives. The field particularly relates to the isolation and characterization of nucleic acid and polypeptides for a novel ecdysone receptor and a novel ultraspiracle receptor. The nucleic acid and polypeptides are useful in novel gene expression systems inducible with ecdysone or derivative receptor agonists.

The invention provides isolated auxin-responsive transcriptional regulatory elements and polynucleotides associated therewith. The present invention provides methods and compositions related to altering gene expression in plants. The invention further provides recombinant expression cassettes, host cells, and transgenic plants.

Methods and materials are provided to isolate the coat protein genes from maize chlorotic dwarf virus. One or more of these genes (MCDV-CP.sub.1, MCDV-CP.sub.2 or MCDV-CP.sub.3) is then incorporated in an expression cassette designed for suitable expression in a plant cell system. The resulting transformation vector is then introduced into maize to provide cross-protection to MCDV or related viral infections.

Maize chlorotic dwarf virus and resistance thereto

An EPR imager and spectrometer includes pulse generating system for generating broadband pulses having an RF carrier frequency that is not highly absorbed by biological samples. The pulse generating system includes up and down chirp convertors for frequency modulating a carrier frequency pulse and compressing the frequency modulated pulse to form a broadband excitation pulse of high energy. Such a machine could form the basis of a clinical imaging device capable of high sensitivity to free radical species in human patients.
