A method and apparatus are disclosed for providing therapeutic electric current to a treatment site of a patient. The steps of the method comprise generating a first and second signal having a frequency difference between 1 Hz and 300 Hz, wherein each signal has a frequency of at least 1 KHz and are amplified by Class D switching amplifiers, minimizing the DC component of the first and second signals using balanced amplifiers; operatively coupling a first electrode of at least one pair of electrodes to a patient's body on or beneath a first epidermal or mucous membrane surface; operatively coupling a second electrode of at least one pair of electrodes to a patient's body on or beneath a second epidermal or mucous membrane surface; forming a therapeutic signal configured to reduce pain at a treatment site by simultaneously sending a first signal from the first electrode to the second electrode and sending a second signal from a second electrode to the first electrode, and then simultaneously sending the first signal from the second electrode back to the first electrode and the second signal from the first electrode back to the second electrode, wherein the first and second signals are linearly independent off phase alternating current signals; and adjusting the therapeutic signal utilizing a feedback system based on impedance changes within the patient's body.

Electrotherapy and neurostimulation medical device apparatus and method

A wearable garment may have a flexible material configured to wrap around a portion of a user's body. The flexible material may have an interior surface configured to contact the user's body and an opposite exterior surface. The garment may further have a first electrode positioned at the interior surface and configured to contact a targeted part of the user's body and a second electrode positioned at the interior surface and configured to contact a targeted part of the user's body. The garment may also have a first electrode connector positioned at the exterior surface and operably connected to the first electrode and a second electrode connector positioned at the exterior surface and operably connected to the second electrode. The first and second electrodes are configured to deliver a therapeutic signal from an electrotherapeutic device via the first and second electrode connectors.

A system and method of stimulating a nerve of a patient is provided. A electro-therapy device is used that includes a signal generator and two electrodes. The first electrode is positioned on an epidermis of the patient over the nerve to be stimulated. The second electrode is positioned on an epidermis of the patient at a second location. A The electro-therapy device is configured to alternately deliver to a first and second electrode a summation of first and second signals which result in a therapeutic signal encompassing the nerve of the patient. The intensity of the first and second signal is adjusted over time.

Noninvasive or percutaneous nerve stimulation

A method of producing percutaneous electrode array is disclosed for applying therapeutic electrical energy to a treatment site in the body of a patient. The array comprises a plurality of electrode microstructures which are inserted into the epidermis, thereby overcoming the inherent electrical impedance of the outer skin layers and obviating the need to prepare the skin surface prior to an electro-therapy treatment. The array preferably includes an adhesion layer to help keep the electrode microstructures inserted into the epidermis during the duration of the therapeutic treatment, and temperature and condition monitoring devices to ensure proper treatment and enhance patient safety.

Percutaneous electrode array

A percutaneous electrode array is disclosed for applying therapeutic electrical energy to a treatment site in the body of a patient. The array comprises a plurality of electrode microstructures which are inserted into the epidermis, thereby overcoming the inherent electrical impedance of the outer skin layers and obviating the need to prepare the skin surface prior to an electro-therapy treatment. The apparatus requires only one feed electrode adapted to feed the electric currents to selected feed sites on or beneath the epidermal or mucous surface of the patient, and only one return electrode adapted to be positioned on or beneath the epidermal or mucous surface of the patient, locally to the treatment site. The apparatus includes a feedback subsystem to detect impedance changes in the patient and accordingly adjust the output of the apparatus.
