Method of making an inventive golf ball incorporating a novel compression molded outer layer comprised of inventive first and second half-shells that are molded from preforms of extrudate, each preform created using a novel flying knife such that a cross-sectioned face of the preform has a curved depth which may be up to 20% greater than the depth of a preform created using a conventional straight edge and/or straight-faced flying knife. In one embodiment, the subassembly of the golf ball is a rubber spherical inner core, and the inventive compression molded outer layer is a rubber outer core layer. In a specific such embodiment, the rubber of the inner core and the rubber of the outer core layer differ.

A metal wood type golf club with improved performance characteristics is disclosed herein where the metal wood type golf club head will combined the performance characteristics of both a driver type golf club head and a fairway type golf club head. More specifically, the present invention relates to a golf club head with a volume of between about 150 cc to about 360 cc, a CG location between about 10 mm to about 20 mm above the ground, a face depth of between about 30 millimeters (mm) to about 65 millimeters (mm), a loft of about between 10 degrees to about 16 degrees, and a COR of about 0.790 to about 0.830, wherein the entire golf club has a length of between about 41 inches to about 45 inches.

A golf club incorporating an interchangeable shaft system includes a shaft, a shaft sleeve, a club head. The shaft sleeve is coupled to an end of the shaft and is received in a hosel included in the club head. The shaft sleeve is removably coupled to the club head. Hosel and shaft sleeve alignment features provide discreet orientations between the shaft and club head.

The device is a three-piece mechanism with a bottom piece bonded into the top end of a tubular golf club shaft, and a plurality of top piece sizes that are connected to the bottom piece and provide a plurality of club lengths. A golf club head with an improved face insert is disclosed herein. More specifically, the present invention discloses a golf club head wherein the face insert has a cavity near the top surface of the face insert that extends vertically downward towards the bottom surface of the face insert while terminating short of the bottom surface. The face insert having the cavity serves to remove unnecessary weight from the upper surface weight of the face insert; while the cavity that terminates short of the bottom surface yields a solid face insert near the bottom surface to preserve the structural integrity of the face insert where the golf club head impacts a golf ball. The cavity created within the face insert may be filled in with a lightweight material that helps further maintain the structural integrity of the entire face insert while still removing unnecessary weight from the face insert.
