In order to take advantage of the real time nature of intra-operative refraction or wavefront aberrometry, and visually make the history of the measurements apparent to a surgeon, a histogram of frequency vs IOL results calculated from an IOL formula is computed and IOL suggestions being accumulated are displayed in a histogram. One embodiment is a means to present to a surgeon a histogram of intra-operative refractions. Another embodiment is to automatically and intra-operatively detect the aphakic phase of a cataract surgery to display a histogram of a recommended IOL power.

A wavefront sensor includes a light source configured to illuminate a subject eye, a detector, a first beam deflecting element configured to intercept a wavefront beam returned from a subject eye when the subject eye is illuminated by the light source and configured to direct a portion of the wavefront from the subject eye through an aperture toward the detector and a controller, coupled to the light source and the beam deflecting element, configured to control the beam deflecting element to deflect and project different portions of an annular ring portion of the wavefront from the subject eye through the aperture and further configured to pulse the light source at a firing rate to sample selected portions of the annular ring at the detector.

An apparatus including a wavefront sensor including a light source configured to illuminate a subject eye, a detector, an image sensor configured to output an image of the subject eye, a first beam deflecting element configured to intercept a wavefront beam returned from a subject eye when the subject eye is illuminated by the light source and configured to direct a portion of the wavefront from the subject eye through an aperture toward the detector and a controller, coupled to the light source, the image sensor and the beam deflecting element, configured to process the image to determine transverse movement of the subject eye and to control the beam deflecting element to deflect and project through the aperture portions of an annular ring portion of the wavefront and further configured to pulse the light source at a firing rate to sample selected portions of the annular ring at the detector, to process the image of the subject eye to calculate transverse movement of the subject eye and to orient the beam deflecting element at a DC offset angle to compensate transverse movement of the subject eye.

A medical sensor may be adapted to prevent unwanted light and electrical interference from corrupting physiological measurements. Sensors are provided with features that reduce the amount of outside light or shunted light that impinge the detecting elements of the sensor. The sensor is adapted to reduce crosstalk between electrical signals, increasing the accuracy of measurements. The sensor is also adapted to reduce the effect of outside light or shunted light on pulse oximetry measurements.

A light emitter drive circuit for an oximeter which utilizes a single inductor for driving multiple light emitters. The inductor is connected to a switching circuit to multiple energy storage circuits, such as capacitors. These are alternately charged up, using the same inductor. Subsequently, the capacitors are alternatively discharged for their corresponding light emitters through the same inductor. Also, the magnetic susceptibility of the LED drive circuit is reduced by using magnetic flux canceling in the inductor. In one embodiment, a toroidal inductor is used with geometric symmetry and its magnetic flux. In other embodiment, a dual core closed bobbin shielded inductor is used.

Switch-mode oximeter LED drive with a single inductor

A device and method for reducing crosstalk between wires is provided. The method includes spatially separating first and second sets of wires. A device is disposed relative to the first and second sets of wires to maintain the spatial separation. The method also comprises coupling pins to the first and second sets of wires. Additionally, the method includes covering the device with a connector housing.
