A wheel assembly, which is particularly applicable to bicycles, includes a hub, a pair of laterally spaced bearings, and is constructed to cooperate with a frame of a bicycle. The bearings include an outer race that is directly engaged with the hub. An inner race of each bearing is constructed to directly receive a portion of the bicycle frame such that the wheel is supported by direct interaction of the bicycle frame and the bearing members. Optionally, a hollow axle may extend between adjacent bearings to further enhance the lateral stiffness of the wheel assembly.

Bicycle wheel assembly

A bicycle wheel assembly having a number of spokes that extends between a hub and a rim. The wheel assembly includes a drive side that faces a chain and a non-drive side that is laterally spaced from the drive side. The spokes that extend between the hub and the rim on the drive side of the wheel assembly are oriented in a series of radial spokes and one-cross spoke pairs. Preferably, the drive side spokes are oriented in a repeating pattern. The non-drive side spokes are oriented in a repeating pattern wherein each spoke crosses more than one other non-drive side spoke. A wheel having such a spoke lacing pattern is lightweight and robust.

A unitary fiber reinforced plastic aerodynamic bicycle handlebar is molded with a one piece base bar having tubes that slidably receive forward handlebar extensions, the extensions being either locked in place with binder collars, or telescopingly mounted, and either the extensions receiving arm pad brackets or the arm pad brackets being mounted to the base bar, the base bar extending outwardly and terminating in grips, the extensions permitting the rider to assume an aerodynamic position and the grips enabling control while maneuvering, an improved stem permitting a light weight, aerodynamic mounting of the bar to a bicycle.

A bicycle wheel having a number of larger than normal spokes constructed to support a rim about a hub. The hub includes a number of recesses that are constructed to receive an end of each spoke. The spoke and hub are constructed such that translation of the spoke in an axial direction relative to the hub engages an end of each spoke with a respective recess. Each spoke can be rotated about an axis of the spoke when the spoke is positioned in a respective recess such that the rim is generally concentrically supported about the hub by a limited number of spokes.
