Various methods and systems are provided for reduction of I-pulsing artifacts. In one example, a portion of a picture is modified to be encoded as an I picture based in part upon a picture that precedes the picture. The modification can reduce an I-pulsing artifact associated with the I picture. The modified picture is intra-coded for inclusion in a series of encoded pictures, which may then be transmitted. In another example, an encoder includes adaptive pre-processing circuitry and intra-encoding processing circuitry. The pre-processing circuitry modifies a portion of a first picture based in part upon a second picture that precedes the first picture in a series of video pictures. For example, the modification may be based upon coding noise associated with the preceding picture. The intra-encoding processing circuitry encodes the modified picture as an I picture.

Reduction of I-pulsing artifacts

A television on a chip (TVOC) system that provides a cost effective approach for providing television functionality on a single integrated circuit chip is disclosed. A TVOC includes the functionality necessary to receive and display television signals in a variety of input and output formats. A TVOC can be used in set-top boxes for cable and satellite television, or directly within a television. All functionality provided can be provided on a single integrated circuit. TVOC includes a data transport module, an IF demodulator, a digital audio engine, an analog audio engine, a digital video engine, and an analog video engine. The TVOC also includes three sets of interfaces including output interfaces, control interfaces and ancillary interfaces. Further features and embodiments provide enhanced functionality and increased efficiencies.

Television functionality on a chip

A system and method for synchronizing sub-carriers in a signal processing system. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise method steps and structure that receive a sampled signal. Various aspects may produce a synchronization signal based on the sampled signal. Various aspects may generate and store a cropped version of the received sampled signal. Various aspects may read a cropped sampled signal from memory that corresponds to the received sampled signal. Various aspects may generate a restored sampled signal by adding samples to the cropped sampled signal read from memory. Various aspects may, based on the synchronization signal, output the restored sampled signal coarsely synchronized to the received sampled signal. Various aspects may determine a phase difference between the output restored sampled signal and the output received sub-carrier. Various aspects may adjust the phase of the restored sampled signal in response to the determined phase difference.

Closed loop sub-carrier synchronization system

Herein described is a method and system for generating an improved video output when deinterlacing pull-down video. The improvement results from reducing cross-chroma artifacts. In a representative embodiment, the method comprises first computing an adjusted chroma of a present pixel from a present top field or present bottom field of film sourced video as a function of an execution stage field phase. The method further comprises second computing a chroma of an absent pixel vertically adjacent to the present pixel, wherein the second computing is performed as a function of the execution stage field phase. In a representative embodiment, a deinterlacer video engine and a local storage circuitry process the 3:2 pull-down video by applying various equations for performing the first computing and the second computing. An adjusted chroma and an absent pixel chroma is computed for each present pixel at each execution stage field phase.

Method and system for reducing composite video cross-chroma artifacts in movie material for a deinterlacer

A system and method for improving decisions for 2D combing of a video. A 2D-comb is applied to a baseband video signal, thus producing a chroma component of the signal, and an associated combing error. A narrowband filter is applied to the chroma component to produce a filtered chroma component. The chroma component and the filtered chroma component are blended in proportions based on the amount of combing error to produce a new chroma component. A larger combing error induces selection or blending a larger portion of the filtered chroma component, which as a result of narrowband filtering contains less cross-chroma error. Subtracting the new chroma component from the baseband video signal produces a new luma component. The chroma component can also be filtered using a wider band filter to produce a non-complementary chroma component to be subtracted from the baseband video signal to produce the new luma component.

Method and system for improving video combing decisions

Methods and systems for data compression for storage of 3D comb filter data are disclosed. An incoming video signal may be band-limited during combing, where the incoming video signal may comprise a plurality of active and inactive video samples disposed within a plurality of video lines. The active video samples disposed within at least a portion of the plurality of video lines may be stored. The incoming video signal may be band-limited to 6.75 MHz, for example. Video samples utilized for eliminating edge effects may be stored. The number of video samples utilized for eliminating edge effects may be associated with an upsampling filter tap count. The active video samples may be combed. At least a portion of the plurality of video lines may be stored. The portion of the plurality of video lines may comprise active video lines.

Method and system for data compression for storage of 3D comb filter data

A system and method for automatically controlling color synchronization polarity during video decoding. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise at least one module that is adapted to monitor color synchronization polarity at a plurality of instances over a period of time. The at least one module may also, for example, be adapted to generate a sequence of signals indicative of the color synchronization polarity correctness at the plurality of instances. The at least one module may additionally, for example, be adapted to statistically analyze the sequence of signals. The at least one module may further, for example, be adapted to determine, based at least in part on the statistical analysis of the sequence of signals, whether color synchronization polarity is correct. The at least one module may still further, for example, be adapted to control color synchronization polarity based, at least in part, on the polarity correctness determination.

Automatic color-sync polarity control

A method and system for correcting luma data and chroma data from a composite signal for a plurality of lines are disclosed. The method and system include correlating line data of the composite signal from a portion of the plurality of lines to provide a plurality of correlation signals. The method and system also include generating a chroma suppression signal based on the plurality of correlation signals. The chroma suppression signal indicates whether to suppress a portion of the chroma data. The chroma suppression signal indicates that the portion of the chroma data should be suppressed when a large luma transition and the chroma data being beneath a threshold are detected.

Method and system for cross-luminance reduction in multi-standard television decoders

A system and method for determining phase of a subcarrier (e.g., a jittering video subcarrier). Various aspects of the present invention may comprise determining at least one weighting factor based, at least in part, on a subcarrier synchronization signal (e.g., a video synchronization signal). A first subcarrier phase sample and at least a second subcarrier phase sample may then be obtained. Subcarrier phase may then be determined by interpolating between the first subcarrier phase sample and the second subcarrier phase sample, where such interpolation (e.g., linear interpolation) may be based, at least in part, on the determined weighting factor(s).

System and method for determining video subcarrier phase

Aspects of the invention provide a method and system for a mixed analog-digital automatic gain control. The received analog signal is amplified by the analog amplifier and then converted to a digital value by an ADC. A clamp reference level of the converted signal is removed prior to applying a digital gain to a digital multiplied. Once the digital gain is applied, the clamp reference level is restored to the digital signal. A loop filter determines the system time response from the error between an amplitude parameter of the received signal and an AGC reference level. A gain separation circuit generates the system gain and separates it into a digital gain and an analog gain in a way to maximize the use of the analog amplifier. The analog gain is applied to the analog amplifier and the digital gain is applied to the digital multiplier.

Method and system for mixed analog-digital automatic gain control

In a method and system for 3D comb synchronization and alignment of standard and non-standard video signals, a coarse synchronization is performed on a bottom frame, a current frame, and a top frame based on a bottom frame field count. The current frame is assigned the frame transferred immediately prior to a bottom frame whereas the top frame is assigned the frame transferred two frames. A current frame window signal and a top frame window signal may be used to lock the current frame and the top frame to a bottom frame vertical sync signal. After coarse synchronization, the video frames are finely aligned by correlating a phase difference between the subcarrier signals in each frame and modifying the phase difference until the correlation results in a specified phase locked value range. This method and system may facilitate the handling of video stream switching and non-standard data streams.

Aspects of the invention provide a system for a mixed analog-digital automatic gain control. The received analog signal is amplified by the analog amplifier and then converted to a digital value by an ADC.
